LTC2368-24 Demo Board | 24-Bit, 1Msps Pseudo-Differential Input SAR ADC with Integrated Filter (Requires DC590, DC2026 or DC890)

The LTC2380-24 and LTC2368-24 are low power, low noise, high speed, 24-bit SAR ADCs with an integrated digital averaging filter that operates from a single 2.5V supply. The demo manual refers to the LTC2380-24 but applies to both parts, the only difference being that the LTC2380-24 has fully differential inputs and the LTC2368-24 has pseudo-differential inputs. The LTC2380-24 has –117dB THD, consumes only 28mW and achieves ±4ppm INL max with no missing codes at 24 bits. The DC2289A demonstrates the DC and AC performance of the LTC2380-24 in conjunction with the DC590 or DC2026 QuikEval™ and DC890 PScope™ data collection boards. Use the DC590 or DC2026 to demonstrate DC performance such as peak-to-peak noise and DC linearity. Use the DC890 if precise sampling rates are required or to demonstrate AC performance such as SNR, THD, SINAD and SFDR. The Demonstration Circuit 2289A is intended to show recommended grounding, component placement and selection, routing and bypassing for this ADC.

Demonstration circuit 1231A is a Dual Output, Dual Phase 5A Synchronous Buck Converter featuring the LTC3850EGN. The entire circuit, including the bulk output capacitors, fit within a 1.04 × 0.94 area on all layers. The package style for the LTC3850EGN is a 28-lead narrow plastic SSOP. The main features of the board include rail tracking, an internal 5V linear regulator for bias, RUN pins for each output and a PGOOD signal and a Mode selector that allow the converter to run in CCM, pulse skip or Burst Mode operation. Synchronization to an external clock is also possible through some minor component changes. Two versions of the board are available. DC-1231A-A has an on-board sense resistor for current feedback, while the DC1231A-B is configured with a DCR sense circuit that allows the converter to use the inductors DCR as the sense element instead of the on-board sense resistors to save cost and board space and improves efficiency.

Demonstration circuit 2118B is a combination step-down battery charger and step-up battery backup regulator using the LTC4040 monolithic system power manager. The DC2118B has an input voltage range from 4.8V to 5.5V with overvoltage protection (OVP) to 40V, as limited by the external MOSFET. The input current is monitored to prioritize the load up to the 2.5A threshold before charge current is reduced.
Battery Charging
As initially configured, DC2118B is programmed for 2A charge current limit when in charge mode. The charge voltage is jumper-selectable in 8 discrete steps from 3.45V to 3.6V for LiFePO4 chemistry or 3.95V to 4.1V for Li-ion chemistry, according to the F2/F1/F0 programming input settings.
The charge current limit is adjustable via the PROG pin resistor. End-of-charge status is triggered by current falling below C/8 and indicated by the CHRG LED. The optional NTC input provides temperature fault detection and status indicated by the FAULT LED. Charging can be enabled/disabled with the ENCHG jumper.
Battery Backup
Following an input power failure, the circuit automatically shifts to battery backup boost mode to regulate the VSYS output rail. The backup mode system output voltage is initially programmed for 5V. The input power failure status is indicated by the PFO LED.
If VSYS ever falls below the programmed reset threshold voltage, the RST LED will change states to indicate the need to reset the system and recharge the battery. Backup regulation can be enabled/disabled with the ENBST jumper.
For convenience, all LEDs can be disabled with the LED jumper to reduce the quiescent current of the system.
