AD8317-EVALZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8317 is a demodulating logarithmic amplifier, capable of accurately converting an RF input signal to a corresponding decibel-scaled output. It employs the progressive compression technique over a cascaded amplifier chain, each stage of which is equipped with a detector cell. The device can be used in either measurement or controller modes. The AD8317 maintains accurate log conformance for signals of 1 MHz to 8 GHz and provides useful operation to 10 GHz. The input dynamic range is typically 55 dB (referenced to 50 ?) with less than ?3 dB error. The AD8317 has 6 ns/10 ns response time (fall time/rise time) that enables RF burst detection to a pulse rate of beyond 50 MHz. The device provides unprecedented logarithmic intercept stability vs. ambient temperature conditions. A supply of 3.0 V to 5.5 V is required to power the device. Current consumption is typically 22 mA, and it decreases to 200 ?A when the device is disabled. The AD8317 can be configured to provide a control voltage to a power amplifier or a measurement output from the VOUT pin. Because the output can be used for controller applications, special attention has been paid to minimize wideband noise. In this mode, the setpoint control voltage is applied to the VSET pin.The feedback loop through an RF amplifier is closed via VOUT, the output of which regulates the output of the amplifier to a magnitude corresponding to VSET. The AD8317 provides 0 V to (VPOS ? 0.1 V) output capability at the VOUT pin, suitable for controller applications. As a measurement device, VOUT is externally connected to VSET to produce an output voltage, VOUT, that is a decreasing linear-in-dB function of the RF input signal amplitude. The logarithmic slope is ?22 mV/dB, determined by the VSET interface. The intercept is 15 dBm (referenced to 50 ?, CW input) using the INHI input. These parameters are very stable against supply and temperature variations. The AD8317 is fabricated on a SiGe bipolar IC process and is available in a 2 mm ? 3 mm, 8-lead LFCSP with an operating temperature range of ?40?C to +85?C.Applications RF transmitter PA setpoint control and level monitoring Power monitoring in radio link transmitters RSSI measurement in base stations, WLANs, WiMAX, and radars

AD8330-EVALZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8330 is a wideband variable gain amplifier for applicationsrequiring a fully differential signal path, low noise, well-definedgain, and moderately low distortion, from dc to 150 MHz. Theinput pins can also be driven from a single-ended source. Thepeak differential input is ?2 V, allowing sine wave operation at1 V rms with generous headroom. The output pins can drivesingle-sided loads essentially rail-to-rail. The differential outputresistance is 150 ?. The output swing is a linear function of thevoltage applied to the VMAG pin that internally defaults to 0.5 V,providing a peak output of ?2 V. This can be raised to 10 V p-p,limited by the supply voltage. The basic gain function is linear-in-dB, controlled by the voltageapplied to Pin VDBS. The gain ranges from 0 dB to 50 dB forcontrol voltages between 0 V and 1.5 V?a slope of 30 mV/dB.The gain linearity is typically within ?0.1 dB. By changing thelogic level on Pin MODE, the gain decreases over the same range, with an opposite slope. A second gain control port is providedat the VMAG pin and allows the user to vary the numeric gainfrom a factor of 0.03 to 10. All the parameters of the AD8330have low sensitivities to temperature and supply voltages. UsingVMAG, the basic 0 dB to 50 dB range can be repositioned toany value from 20 dB higher (that is, 20 dB to 70 dB) to at least30 dB lower (that is, ?30 dB to +20 dB) to suit the application, thereby providing an unprecedented gain range of over 100 dB.A unique aspect of the AD8330 is that its bandwidth and pulseresponse are essentially constant for all gains, over both thebasic 50 dB linear-in-dB range, but also when using the linearin-magnitudefunction. The exceptional stability of the HFresponse over the gain range is of particular value in those VGAapplications where it is essential to maintain accurate gain lawconformanceat high frequencies. An external capacitor at Pin OFST sets the high-pass corner ofan offset reduction loop, whose frequency can be as low as 5 Hz.When this pin is grounded, the signal path becomes dc-coupled.When used to drive an ADC, an external common-mode controlvoltage at Pin CNTR can be driven to within 0.5 V of either groundor VS to accommodate a wide variety of requirements. By default, the two outputs are positioned at the midpoint of the supply, VS/2.Other features, such as two levels of power-down (fully off anda hibernate mode), further extend the practical value of thisexceptionally versatile VGA.The AD8330 is available in 16-lead LFCSP and 16-lead QSOPpackages and is specified for operation from ?40?C to +85?C.Applications Pre-ADC signal conditioning 75 ? cable driving adjust AGC amplifiers

Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8336 is a low noise, single-ended, linear in dB, general-purpose variable gain amplifier, usable over a large range of supply voltages. It features an uncommitted preamplifier with a usable gain range of 6 dB to 26 dB. The VGA gain range is 0 dB to 60 dB, with absolute gain limits of ?26 dB to +34 dB. When the preamplifier gain is adjusted for 12 dB, the combined 3 dB bandwidth of the preamplifier and VGA is 100 MHz, and the amplifier is fully usable to 80 MHz. With ?5 V supplies, the maximum output swing is 7 V p-p.Because of the X-AMP? architecture, frequency response is maintained across the entire gain range of the VGA. The differential gain control interface provides precise linear in dB gain scaling of 50 dB/V over the temperature span of ?55?C to +125?C and is simple to interface with a variety of external sources. The large supply voltage range makes the AD8336 suited for industrial medical applications and video circuits. Dual-supply operation enables bipolar input signals, such as those generated by photodiodes or photomultiplier tubes. The fully independent voltage feedback preamplifier allows both inverting and noninverting gain topologies. The AD8336 can be used within the specified gain range of ?14 dB to +60 dB by selecting a preamplifier gain between 6 dB and 26 dB and choosing appropriate feedback resistors. For the nominal preamplifier gain of 4?, the overall gain range is ?14 dB to +46 dB.If required, quiescent power is limited to a safe level by asserting the PWRA pin.APPLICATIONS Industrial process controls High performance AGC systems I/Q signal processing Video Industrial and medical ultrasound Radar receivers

AD8340-EVALZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8340 vector modulator performs arbitrary amplitude and phase modulation of an RF signal. Because the RF signal path is linear, the original modulation is preserved. This part can be used as a general-purpose RF modulator, a variable attenuator/phase shifter, or a remodulator. The amplitude can be controlled from a maximum of ?2 dB to less than ?32 dB, and the phase can be shifted continuously over the entire 360? range. For maximum gain, the AD8340 delivers an OP1dB of 11 dBm, an OIP3 of 24 dBm, and an output noise floor of ?149 dBm/Hz, independent of phase. It operates over a frequency range of 700 MHz to 1.0 GHz.The baseband inputs in Cartesian I and Q format control the amplitude and phase modulation imposed on the RF input signal. Both I and Q inputs are dc-coupled with a ?500 mV differential full-scale range. The maximum modulation band- width is 230 MHz, which can be reduced by adding external capacitors to limit the noise bandwidth on the control lines. Both the RF inputs and outputs can be used differentially or single-ended and must be ac-coupled. The RF input and output impedances are nominally 50 ? over the operating frequency range. The DSOP pin allows the output stage to be disabled quickly to protect subsequent stages from overdrive. The AD8340 operates off supply voltages from 4.75 V to 5.25 V while consuming approximately 130 mA.The AD8340 is fabricated using the Analog Devices, Inc. proprietary, high performance 25 GHz SOI complementary bipolar IC process. It is available in a 24-lead RoHS-compliant LFCSP package and operates over a ?40?C to +85?C temperature range. Evaluation boards are available.APPLICATIONS RF PA linearization/RF predistortion Amplitude and phase modulation Variable attenuators and phase shifters CDMA2000, GSM/EDGE linear power amplifiers Smart antennas

AD8363-EVALZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8363 is a true rms responding power detector that can be directly driven with a single-ended 50 ? source. This feature makes the AD8363 frequency versatile by eliminating the need for a balun or any other form of external input tuning for operation up to 6 GHz.?The AD8363 provides an accurate power measurement, independent of waveform, for a variety of high frequency communication and instrumentation systems. Requiring only a single supply of 5 V and a few capacitors, it is easy to use and provides high measurement accuracy. The AD8363 can operate from arbitrarily low frequencies to 6 GHz and can accept inputs that have rms values from less than ?50 dBm to at least 0 dBm, with large crest factors exceeding the requirements for accurate measurement of WiMAX, CDMA, W-CDMA, TD-SCDMA, multicarrier GSM, and LTE signals. The AD8363 can determine the true power of a high frequency signal having a complex low frequency modulation envelope, or it can be used as a simple low frequency rms voltmeter. The high-pass corner generated by its internal offset-nulling loop can be lowered by a capacitor added on the CHPF pin.Used as a power measurement device, VOUT is connected to VSET. The output is then proportional to the logarithm of the rms value of the input. The reading is presented directly in decibels and is conveniently scaled to 52 mV/dB, or approximately 1 V per decade; however, other slopes are easily arranged. In controller mode, the voltage applied to VSET determines the power level required at the input to null the deviation from the setpoint. The output buffer can provide high load currents. The AD8363 has 1.5 mW power consumption when powered down by a logic high applied to the TCM2/PWDN pin. It powers up within about 30 ?s to its nominal operating current of 60 mA at 25?C. The AD8363 is available in a 4 mm ? 4 mm 16-lead LFCSP for operation over the ?40?C to +125?C temperature range.A fully populated RoHS-compliant evaluation board is also available.Applications:Power amplifier linearization/control loopsMulti-Standard, Multi-Carrier Wireless Infrastructure (MCGSM, CDMA,WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, WiMAX, LTE)Transmitter power controls Transmitter signal strength indication (TSSI)RF instrumentation

AD8376-EVALZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8376 is a dual channel, digitally controlled, variable gain wide bandwidth amplifier that provides precise gain control, high IP3, and low noise figure. The excellent distortion performance and high signal bandwidth make the AD8376 an excellent gain control device for a variety of receiver applications. Using an advanced high speed SiGe process and incorporating proprietary distortion cancellation techniques, the AD8376 achieves 50 dBm output IP3 at 200 MHz. The AD8376 provides a broad 24 dB gain range with 1 dB resolution. The gain of each channel is adjusted through dedicated 5-pin control interfaces and can be driven using standard TTL levels. The open-collector outputs provide a flexible interface, allowing the overall signal gain to be set by the loading impedance. Thus, the signal voltage gain is directly proportional to the load. Each channel of the AD8376 can be individually powered on by applying the appropriate logic level to the ENBA and ENBB power enable pins. The quiescent current of the AD8376 is typically 130 mA per channel. When powered down, the AD8376 consumes less than 5 mA and offers excellent input-to-output isolation, lower than ?50 dB at 200 MHz. Fabricated on an Analog Devices, Inc., high speed SiGe process, the AD8376 is supplied in a compact, thermally enhanced, 5 mm ? 5mm 32-lead LFCSP package and operates over the temperature range of ?40?C to +85?C.ApplicationsDifferential ADC drivers Main and diversity IF sampling receivers Wideband multichannel receivers Instrumentation Data Sheet, Rev. 0, 8/07
