LTM4681 | PolyPhase Single Output Step-Down μModule Regulator with Digital PSM: 2 × LTM4681 at 240A

Demonstration circuit 3082A-A features the LTM4681: the wide input and output voltage range, high efficiency and power density, high current PolyPhase® single output DC/DC step-down μModule® regulator with digital power system management. DC3082A-A is configured as 8-phase single output using 2 × LTM4681. The factory default input voltage is 12V typical, output voltage is 1V at 240A typical or 250A peak with recommended 400LFM forced airflow. The demo board output voltages can be adjusted from 0.6V to 1V. Programming the output voltages to any value that is greater than 1V, requires derating output current based on thermal derating curves provided in the data sheet of the LTM4681. Heat sink or other appropriate electronic cooling systems can also be used in conjunction with forced airflow to further optimize the output power when the output is on and loaded with maximum output current. The factory default switching frequency is preset at 350kHz typical. DC3082A-A comes with PMBus interface and digital power system management functions. An onboard 12-pin connector is available for users to connect the dongle DC1613A to the demo board, provides an easy way to communicate and program the part using LTpowerPlay® software development tool. LTpowerPlay software and I2C/PMBus/SMBus dongle DC1613A allows users to monitor real time telemetry of input and output voltages, input and output current, switching frequency, internal IC die temperatures, power stage component temperatures and fault logs. Programmable parameters include device address, output voltages, control loop compensation, switching frequency, phase interleaving, DCM or CCM Mode of operation, digital soft-start, sequencing, and time based shutdown, fault responses to input and output overvoltage, output overcurrent, IC die and power component overtemperatures. The LTM4681 is available in a thermally enhanced, low profile 330-Lead (15mm × 22mm × 8.17mm) BGA package. It is recommended to read the data sheet and demo manual of LTM4681 prior to using or making any hardware changes to DC3082A-A. LTpowerPlay software can be downloaded here. Demonstration circuit 2222A features the LTC2508-32 and LTC2512-24 ADCs. The LTC2508-32 and LTC2512-24 are low power, low noise, high speed, 32-bit/24-bit SAR ADCs with an integrated configurable digital averaging filter that operate from a single 2.5V supply. The demo manual refers to the LTC2508-32 but applies to both parts, the only difference being sample rate and number of bits. The DC2222A demonstrates the DC and AC performance of the LTC2508-32 in conjunction with the DC590 or DC2026 QuikEval™ and DC890 PScope™ data collection boards. Use the DC590 or DC2026 to demonstrate DC performance such as peak-to-peak noise and DC linearity.

3A, 0.95V to 10V Very Low Dropout Linear Regulator with Programmable Current Limit

Demonstration circuit 2362A is an adjustable 3A linear regulator featuring the LT3033. The LT3033 is a very low dropout voltage (VLDO™) linear regulator that operates from a single input supply down to 0.95V. The device supplies 3A output current with 95mV typical dropout voltage. The LT3033 is ideal for low input voltage to low output voltage applications, providing comparable electrical efficiency to a switching regulator. The LT3033 optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR ceramic output capacitors as small as 10µF. A 10nF bypass capacitor at REF/BYP pin typically reduces output voltage noise to 60µVRMS in a 10Hz to 100kHz bandwidth. Soft-start time is directly proportional to the REF/BYP capacitor value. The LT3033’s current limit, accurate to ±12% over a wide input voltage and temperature range, can be programmed by a single resistor. When the input-to-output differential voltage exceeds 5V, foldback current limit lowers the internal current limit level, which may override the external programmable current limit. LT3033 has a PWRGD pin which indicates when the ADJ pin is within 8% of its nominal value. By connecting an external pull-up resistor from PWRGD to either the IN or OUT pin, PWRGD is pulled low when the output falls below 90.1% of the regulated voltage. As the output voltage rises above 92% of its regulated voltage, the PWRGD pin voltage is pulled up. The LT3033 features output current monitoring by connecting a resistor from the IMON pin to GND. The IMON pin is the collector of a PNP current mirror that outputs 1/2650th of the power PNP current. This circuitry is active for VIMON ≤ (VOUT – 400mV). The LT3033 also features shutdown, reverse-battery protection, thermal limiting with hysteresis and reverse current protection. The LT3033 is available as an adjustable device with an output voltage down to the 200mV reference. The device is available in a thermally enhanced, low profile 3mm × 4mm × 0.75mm QFN package. Demonstration circuit 2453A features the LTM4643 μModule® regulator, a high performance high efficiency 4 output step-down regulator. The LTM4643EV has an operating input voltage range of 4V to 14V and is able to provide up to 3A out output current from each of its phases. Each output’s voltage is programmable from 0.6V to 5.5V but the demo board is configured to provide outputs of 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.5V and 1.2V. The LTM4643EV is a complete DC/DC point of load regulator in a thermally enhanced 15mm × 9mm × 5.01mm BGA package requiring only a few input and output capacitors.

LTM4678 Demo Board | Dual 25A or Single 50A μModule Regulator with Digital Power System Management

Demonstration circuit 2552A is a dual-output, high efficiency, high density, µModule regulator with 4.5V to 16V input range. Each output can supply 25A maximum load current. The demo board has a LTM4678 µModule regulator, which is a dual 25A or single 50A step-down regulator with digital power system management. Please see LTM4678 data sheet for more detailed information. DC2552A powers up to default settings and produce power based on configuration resistors without the need for any serial bus communication. This allows easy evaluation of the DC/DC converter. To fully explore the extensive power system management features of the part, download the GUI software LTpowerPlay® onto your PC and use Analog Devices’ I2C/SMBus/PMBus dongle DC1613A to connect to the board. LTpowerPlay allows the user to reconfigure the part on the fly and store the configuration in EEPROM, view telemetry of voltage, current, temperature and fault status.
