The DC2619A is a demonstration system for the LTC2972 power system manager that interfaces to various regulators. The board contains all the circuitry needed to demonstrate a power system that utilizes four 2-channel LTC2972 devices that manage eight power supplies. The eight power supplies include linear and switching regulators or the purpose of demonstrating a variety of methods to sense voltage and current. The demo board provides a sophisticated 8-channel programmable power supply system. The LTC2972 is a 2-channel I2C/SMBus/PMBus power system manager that features accurate input current and energy measurement. The device monitors input current and input voltage, and calculates input power and energy. The DC2619A demonstrates the ability of the LTC2972 to sequence, trim, margin, supervise, monitor, and log faults for eight power supplies. The LTC2972 monitors each channel’s output voltage and output current and also monitors external temperature sensors and its own internal die temperature. The DC2619A board contains eight independent power supply rails. The +5V/–5V rails are based on the switched capacitor LTC3260 regulator, the 1.0V/1.2V rails are powered by an LTC3633 switching regulator, the 1.5V/1.8V rails are powered by LTC3405A switching regulators, and the 2.5/3.3V rails are powered by LT3086/LT3055 linear regulators. The board is pre-configured with these voltages and may be re-configured with feedback resistors. The LTpowerPlay® graphical user interface (GUI) supports this demonstration system and enables complete control of all the features of the LTC2972. Together, the LTpowerPlay software and DC2619A hardware system create a powerful development environment for designing and testing configuration settings of the LTC2972. LTpowerPlay stores these settings in the LTC2972’s internal EEPROM or in a project file. The software displays all of the configuration settings and real time measurements from the power system management IC. The ADP8860SHIELD-EVALZ and the ADP8861SHIELD-EVALZ incorporate light emitting diodes (LEDs) for quick and easy evaluation of the ADP8860 and the ADP8861. Note that only the ADP8860SHIELD-EVALZ has dual light intensity sensors. The ADP8860SHIELD-EVALZ and the ADP8861SHIELD-EVALZ follow the form factor of a regular Arduino® shield to allow compatibility with microcontroller boards that use the same interface. These evaluation boards also incorporate a separate header dedicated to I2C communications. The ADP8860 and the ADP8861 are 7-channel LED drivers that utilizes a charge pump with selective gain for maximum efficiency. The LEDs driven by either device are programmable for maximum current and fade in and out times via the I2C interface. Only the ADP8860 has a programable light intensity threshold that can be set via the I2C interface of the device. Each channel can handle up to 30 mA (typical), except for the seventh channel, which can handle 60 mA (typical). Each channel can be unified to have the same fade in time and fade out time, or each channel can have an individual fade in time and fade out time for greater flexibility. Demonstration circuit 2222A features the LTC2508-32 and LTC2512-24 ADCs. The LTC2508-32 and LTC2512-24 are low power, low noise, high speed, 32-bit/24-bit SAR ADCs with an integrated configurable digital averaging filter that operate from a single 2.5V supply. The demo manual refers to the LTC2508-32 but applies to both parts, the only difference being sample rate and number of bits. The DC2222A demonstrates the DC and AC performance of the LTC2508-32 in conjunction with the DC590 or DC2026 QuikEval™ and DC890 PScope™ data collection boards. Use the DC590 or DC2026 to demonstrate DC performance such as peak-to-peak noise and DC linearity.

Demonstration circuit 2362A is an adjustable 3A linear regulator featuring the LT3033. The LT3033 is a very low dropout voltage (VLDO™) linear regulator that operates from a single input supply down to 0.95V. The device supplies 3A output current with 95mV typical dropout voltage. The LT3033 is ideal for low input voltage to low output voltage applications, providing comparable electrical efficiency to a switching regulator. The LT3033 optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR ceramic output capacitors as small as 10µF. A 10nF bypass capacitor at REF/BYP pin typically reduces output voltage noise to 60µVRMS in a 10Hz to 100kHz bandwidth. Soft-start time is directly proportional to the REF/BYP capacitor value. The LT3033’s current limit, accurate to ±12% over a wide input voltage and temperature range, can be programmed by a single resistor. When the input-to-output differential voltage exceeds 5V, foldback current limit lowers the internal current limit level, which may override the external programmable current limit. LT3033 has a PWRGD pin which indicates when the ADJ pin is within 8% of its nominal value. By connecting an external pull-up resistor from PWRGD to either the IN or OUT pin, PWRGD is pulled low when the output falls below 90.1% of the regulated voltage. As the output voltage rises above 92% of its regulated voltage, the PWRGD pin voltage is pulled up. The LT3033 features output current monitoring by connecting a resistor from the IMON pin to GND. The IMON pin is the collector of a PNP current mirror that outputs 1/2650th of the power PNP current. This circuitry is active for VIMON ≤ (VOUT – 400mV). The LT3033 also features shutdown, reverse-battery protection, thermal limiting with hysteresis and reverse current protection. The LT3033 is available as an adjustable device with an output voltage down to the 200mV reference. The device is available in a thermally enhanced, low profile 3mm × 4mm × 0.75mm QFN package. Demonstration circuit 2453A features the LTM4643 μModule® regulator, a high performance high efficiency 4 output step-down regulator. The LTM4643EV has an operating input voltage range of 4V to 14V and is able to provide up to 3A out output current from each of its phases. Each output’s voltage is programmable from 0.6V to 5.5V but the demo board is configured to provide outputs of 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.5V and 1.2V. The LTM4643EV is a complete DC/DC point of load regulator in a thermally enhanced 15mm × 9mm × 5.01mm BGA package requiring only a few input and output capacitors.
