Demonstration Circuit 658 is a complete power management system using the LTC3456 for portable applications powered by a wall adapter, a USB port or a 2-cell alkaline battery, in that order of priority. DC658 provides three outputs: a 1.8V, 200mA core supply, a 3.3V, 150mA main supply, and a 3.3V, 50mA Hot Swap supply. All outputs are discharged to ground during shutdown. The synchronous buck (1.8V output) and the second converter (which operates as a buck or a boost depending on the power source, and provides 3.3V @ 150mA and 3.3V @ 50mA outputs) accept a 2V to 3.2V battery input or USB/Wall adapter input.

Demonstration circuit 879 is a Micropower Synchronous Step-Up Converter with Output Disconnect featuring the LTC3525-3.3 and LTC3525-5. The LTC3525 is a high performance Burst Mode operation only, synchronous boost converter. The LTC3525 incorporates a feature that maximizes efficiency by adjusting the peak and valley of the inductor current as a function of load. The demo board has two assembly versions: DC879A-A and DC879A-B. The DC879A-A offers fixed 3.3V output. The DC879A-B offers fixed 5V output. They offer a compact, high efficiency solution in single cell or dual cell alkaline or Li-ion applications. Only three small external components are required.

Demonstration circuit 2161A showcases the LTC4231 Micropower Hot Swap™ Controller in a 12V, 3A application. Included on the board are input overvoltage and reverse voltage protection, input voltage dividers for UV and OV detection, an output voltage LED, jumpers to disable UV/OV, manual and remote enable control, and quiescent current measurement. There are turrets provided to monitor input voltage, output voltage, output status, quiescent current, several ground connections, timer pin, and control the ON pin. Input, output and return voltages are provided on banana jacks.

Demonstration circuit DC2448A-C features a PolyPhase® design using the LTM4636EY, a 40A high efficiency, switch mode step-down power µModule® regulator. The input voltage range is from 4.7V to 15V. When VIN < 5.5V, short PVCC to VIN with R1 = 0Ω, and set R3 = 0Ω and remove R2. The output voltage range is 0.6V to 3.3V. The DC2448A-C can deliver a nominal 160A output current. As explained in the data sheet, output current derating is necessary for certain VIN, VOUT and thermal conditions. The board operates in continuous conduction mode in heavy load conditions. For high efficiency at low load currents, the MODE_PLLIN jumper selects pulse-skipping mode for noise sensitive applications or Burst Mode® operation in less noise sensitive applications. The MODE_PLLIN pin also allows the LTM4636 to synchronize to an external clock signal. The phases of the four LTM4636s are 0 degree, 90 degree, 180 degree and 270 degree. DC2448A-C has the option of choosing both internal and external compensation circuit for LTM4636. The LTM4636 datasheet must be read in conjunction with this demo manual prior to working on or modifying demo circuit DC2448A-C.

The DC3006A outputs 12V, and maintains tight regulation with as load current from 1.5mA up to 300mA over an input voltage from 4V to 32V. The output current capability increases with the input voltage, as shown in the Performance Summary table. Transformer leakage inductance causes a voltage spike on the primary side after the power switch turns off. The leakage inductance spike is limited within the MOSFET’s voltage rating of 65V with an RC snubber and a TVS clamp which damp the ringing and clamp the MOSFET drain voltage to a safe level.  The Performance Summary table summarizes the performance of the demo board at room temperature. The demo circuit can be easily modified for different applications with some pre-designed transformers. Demonstration circuit DC330 comprises two low noise micropower voltage regulators using the LT1761 in the 5-lead SOT-23 package. These circuits are primarily used in cellular phones, voltage controlled oscillators, RF power supplies and as local regulators in larger systems.
