The MAX35101 is a time-to-digital converter with built-inamplifier and comparator targeted as a complete analogfront-end (AFE) solution for the ultrasonic heat meter andflow meter markets.With a time measurement accuracy of 20ps and automaticdifferential time-of-flight (TOF) measurement, thisdevice makes for simplified computation of liquid flow.Early edge detection ensures measurements are madewith consistent wave patterns to greatly improve accuracyand eliminate erroneous measurements.Multihit capability with stop-enable windowing allowsthe device to be fine-tuned for the application. Internalanalog switches, an autozero amplifier/comparator, real-timeclock (RTC), and programmable receiver sensitivityprovide the analog interface and control for a minimalelectrical bill of material solution. The RTC provides anevent timing mode that is configurable and runs cyclicalgorithms to minimize microprocessor interactivity andincrease battery life.Built-in arithmetic logic unit provides TOF difference measurements.A programmable receiver hit accumulator canbe utilized to minimize the host microprocessor accessand thus minimize current consumption.For temperature measurement, the MAX35101 supportsup to four (4) 2-wire PT1000/500 platinum resistive temperaturedetectors (RTD).A simple 4-wire SPI interface allows any microcontrollerto effectively configure the device for its intendedmeasurement.On-board 8KB user flash allows the MAX35101 to benonvolatile-configurable and provide nonvolatile energyuse data to be logged.
