The automotive-qualified LMP8480-Q1 and LMP8481-Q1 devices are precision, high-side, current-sense amplifiers that amplify a small differential voltage developed across a current-sense resistor in the presence of high input common-mode voltages. These amplifiers are designed for bidirectional (LMP8481-Q1) or unidirectional (LMP8480-Q1) current applications and accept input signals with a common-mode voltage range from 4 V to 76 V with a bandwidth of 270 kHz. Because the operating power-supply range overlaps the input common-mode voltage range, the LMP848x-Q1 can be powered by the same voltage that is being monitored. This benefit eliminates the need for an intermediate supply voltage to be routed to the point of load where the current is being monitored, resulting in reduced component count and board space.

The LMP848x-Q1 family consists of fixed gains of 20, 60, and 100 for applications that demand high accuracy over temperature. The low-input offset voltage allows the use of smaller sense resistors without sacrificing system error. The LMP8480-Q1 and LMP8481-Q1 are pin-for-pin replacements for the MAX4080 and MAX4081 devices, offering improved offset voltage, wider reference adjust range, and higher output drive capabilities. The LMP8480-Q1 and LMP8481-Q1 are available in an 8-pin VSSOP package.

The Texas Instruments MSP430FR6047 family of ultrasonic sensing and measurement SoCs are powerful, highly integrated microcontrollers (MCUs) that are optimized for water and heat meters. These MCUs offer an integrated Ultrasonic Sensing Solution (USS) module, which provides high accuracy for a wide range of flow rates. The ultrasonic sensing module helps achieve ultra-low-power metering combined with lower system cost due to maximum integration requiring very few external components. MSP430FR6047 MCUs implements a high-speed ADC-based signal acquisition followed by optimized digital signal processing using the integrated Low-Energy Accelerator (LEA) module to deliver a high-accuracy metering solution with ultra-low power optimum for battery-powered metering applications.

The ultrasonic sensing module includes a programmable pulse generator (PPG) and a physical interface (PHY) with a low-impedance output driver for optimum sensor excitation and accurate impendence matching to deliver best results for zero-flow drift (ZFD). The module also includes a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) and a high-speed 12-bit 8-MSPS sigma-delta ADC (SDHS) for accurate signal acquisition from industry-standard ultrasonic transducers.

Additionally, MSP430FR6047 MCUs integrate other peripherals to improve system integration for metering. The devices have a metering test interface (MTIF) module to implement pulse generation to indicate flow measured by the meter. The MSP430FR6047 MCUs also have an on-chip 8-mux LCD driver, RTC, 12-bit SAR ADC, analog comparator, advanced encryption (AES256), and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) modules.

MSP430FR6047 MCUs are supported by an extensive hardware and software ecosystem with reference designs and code examples to get your design started quickly. Development kits for the MSP430FR6047 include the MSP-TS430PZ100E 100-pin target development board and EVM430-FR6047 ultrasonic water flow meter EVM. TI also provides free software including the ultrasonic sensing design center, ultrasonic sensing software library and MSP430Ware software.

TI’s MSP430 ultra-low-power (ULP) FRAM microcontroller platform combines uniquely embedded FRAM and a holistic ultra-low-power system architecture, allowing system designers to increase performance while lowering energy consumption. FRAM technology combines the low-energy fast writes, flexibility, and endurance of RAM with the nonvolatility of Flash.

The TIC12400-Q1 is an advanced Multiple Switch Detection Interface (MSDI) designed to detect external switch status in a 12-V automotive system. The TIC12400-Q1 features an integrated 10-bit ADC to monitor multi-position analog switches and a comparator to monitor digital switches independently of the MCU. Detection thresholds can be programmed for the ADC and the comparator to support various switch topologies and system non-idealities.

The device monitors 24 direct switch inputs, with 10 inputs configurable to monitor switches connected to either ground or battery. 6 unique wetting current settings can be programmed for each input to support different application scenarios. The device supports wake-up operation on all switch inputs to eliminate the need to keep the MCU active continuously, thus reducing power consumption of the system. The TIC12400-Q1 also offers integrated fault detection, ESD protection, and diagnostic functions for improved system robustness.

The TIC12400-Q1 supports 2 modes of operations: continuous and polling mode. In continuous mode, wetting current is supplied continuously. In polling mode, wetting current is turned on periodically to sample the input status based on a programmable timer, thus the system power consumption is significantly reduced.
