The MAX98374 is a high-efficiency, mono Class Dspeaker amplifier featuring dynamic headroom tracking(DHT) and brownout protection. As the power-supply voltagevaries due to sudden transients and declining batterylife, DHT automatically optimizes the headroom availableto the Class D amplifier to maintain a consistent listeningexperience. A wide 5.5V to 16V supply range allows thedevice to exceed 16W into an 8Ω load.The flexible digital interface supports either the MIPISoundWire® compatible interface for audio and controldata, or the PCM interface for audio data and a standardI2C interface for control data. The PCM interface supportsI2S, left-justified, and TDM audio data formats at 16-, 32-,44.1-, 48-, 88.2-, and 96kHz sample rates with 16-, 24-,and 32-bit data. In TDM mode, the device can support upto 16 channels of audio data. A unique clocking structureeliminates the need for an external master clock for PCMcommunication, which reduces pin count and simplifiesboard layout.Active emissions limiting (AEL), spread spectrum modulation(SSM), and edge rate control minimize EMI and eliminatethe need for the output filtering found in traditionalClass D devices.Thermal foldback protection ensures robust behaviorwhen the thermal limits of the device are reached. Whenenabled, it automatically reduces the output power whenthe temperature exceeds a user specified threshold. Thisallows for uninterrupted music playback even at highambient temperatures. Traditional thermal protection isalso available in addition to robust overcurrent protection.A flexible brownout-detection engine (BDE) can beprogrammed to initiate various gain reductions, signallimiting, and clip functions based on supply voltage status.Threshold, hysteresis, and attack/release rates areprogrammable.The device is available in a 0.4mm pitch, 25-bump waferlevelpackage (WLP), or in a 0.4mm pitch, 22-pin FCQFNpackage.
