Address and data are transferred serially through an I²C bus. The clock/calendar provides seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. The date at the end of the month is automatically adjusted for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year. The clock operates in either the 24-hour or 12-hour format with AM/PM indicator.The device is fully accessible through the serial interface while VCC is between 1.8V and 5.5V. I²C operation is not guaranteed below 1.8V. The DS1501/DS1511 are full-function, year 2000-compliant real-time clock/calendars (RTCs) with an RTC alarm, watchdog timer, power-on reset, battery monitors, 256 bytes NV SRAM, and a 32.768kHz output. User access to all registers within the DS1501/DS1511 is accomplished with a byte-wide interface, as shown in Figure 8. The RTC registers contain century, year, month, date, day, hours, minutes, and seconds data in 24-hour binary-coded decimal (BCD) format. The AD9520-31 provides a multioutput clock distribution function with subpicosecond jitter performance, along with an on-chip PLL and VCO. The on-chip VCO tunes from 1.72 GHz to 2.25 GHz. An external 3.3 V/5 V VCO/VCXO of up to 2.4 GHz can also be used.The AD9520 serial interface supports both SPI and I2C® ports. An in-package EEPROM can be programmed through the serial interface and store user-defined register settings for power-up and chip reset.The AD9520 features 12 LVPECL outputs in four groups. Any of the 1.6 GHz LVPECL outputs can be reconfigured as two 250 MHz CMOS outputs.Each group of outputs has a divider that allows both the divide ratio (from 1 to 32) and the phase (coarse delay) to be set.The AD9520 is available in a 64-lead LFCSP and can be operated from a single 3.3 V supply. The external VCO can have an operating voltage up to 5.5 V. The clock operates in either the 24-hour or 12-hour format with an AM/PM indicator. One programmable time-of-day alarm is provided. A temperature-compensated voltage reference monitors the status of VCC and automatically disables the bus interface and switches to the backup supply if a power failure is detected. On the DS1390, a single open drain output provides a CPU interrupt or a square wave at one of four selectable frequencies. The DS1391 replaces the SQW/active-low INT pin with an active-low RST output/debounced input.The DS1390, DS1391, and DS1394 are programmed serially through an SPI-compatible, bidirectional bus. The DS3234 is a low-cost, extremely accurate SPI™ bus real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. The DS3234 incorporates a precision, temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuit to monitor VCC. When VCC drops below the power-fail voltage (VPF), the device asserts the active-low RST output and also disables read and write access to the part when VCC drops below both VPF and VBAT. The active-low RST pin is monitored as a pushbutton input for generating a µP reset. The device switches to the backup supply input and maintains accurate timekeeping when main power to the device is interrupted. The integration of the crystal resonator enhances the long-term accuracy of the device as well as reduces the piece-part count in a manufacturing line. The DS3234 is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges, and is offered in an industry-standard 300-mil, 20-pin SO package.The DS3234 also integrates 256 bytes of battery-backed SRAM. In the event of main power loss, the contents of the memory are maintained by the power source connected to the VBAT pin.
