The ADM101E is a single channel RS-232 driver and receiver inthe Analog Devices Craft Port series, designed to operate from asingle, 5 V supply. A highly efficient charge-pump voltage invertergenerates an on-chip –5 V supply, which eliminates the needfor a negative power supply for the driver and permits RS-232compatible output levels to be developed using charge pumpcapacitors as small as 0.1 μF.A shutdown input disables the charge pump and puts the deviceinto a low power shutdown mode, in which the current consumptionis typically less than 1 μA. The transmitter is disabledduring shutdown but the receiver remains functional. Craft Port is a trademark of Analog Devices, Inc.An epitaxial BiCMOS construction minimizes power consumptionto 3 mW and also guards against latch-up. Overvoltageprotection is provided allowing the receiver inputs to withstandcontinuous voltages in excess of ±30 V. In addition, all I-O pinshave ESD protection to levels greater than 15 kV.The ADM101E is available in a 10-lead μSOIC package, whichmakes it ideal for serial communications in small, portableapplications such as palmtop computers and mobile telephones,where a full, RS-232 serial interface is not required, but compactsize and low power drain are paramount.

The LTC4310 provides bidirectional I2C communications between two I2C buses whose grounds are isolated from one another. Each LTC4310 encodes I2C bus logic states into signals that are transmitted across an isolation barrier to another LTC4310. The receiving LTC4310 decodes the transmission and drives its l2C bus to the appropriate logic state. The isolation barrier can be bridged by an inexpensive Ethernet, or other transformer, to achieve communications across voltage differences reaching thousands of volts, or it can be bridged by capacitors for lower voltage isolation. The LTC4310-1 is intended for use in 100kHz I2C systems. The LTC4310-2 is intended for 400kHz I2C systems.Rise time accelerators provide strong pull-up currents on SCL and SDA rising edges to meet rise time specifications for heavily loaded systems. Data and clock Hot Swap™ circuitry prevent data corruption when a card is inserted into or removed from a live bus. When a bus is stuck low for 37ms, the LTC4310 turns off its pull-down devices and generates up to sixteen clocks and a STOP bit in an attempt to free the bus. The ADM3251E is a high speed, 2.5 kV fully isolated, single-channel RS-232/V.28 transceiver device that operates from asingle 5 V power supply. Due to the high ESD protection on the RIN and TOUT pins, the device is ideally suited for operation in electrically harsh environments or where RS-232 cables arefrequently being plugged and unplugged.The ADM3251E incorporates dual-channel digital isolators withisoPower™ integrated, isolated power. There is no requirement to use a separate isolated dc-to-dc converter. Chip-scale transformer iCoupler® technology from Analog Devices, Inc., is used both for the isolation of the logic signals as well as for the integrated dc-to-dc converter. The result is a total isolation solution.The ADM3251E contains isoPower technology that uses high frequency switching elements to transfer power through the transformer. Special care must be taken during printed circuitboard (PCB) layout to meet emissions standards. Refer to Application Note AN-0971, Control of Radiated Emissions with isoPower Devices, for details on board layout considerations. The ADM3251E conforms to the EIA/TIA-232E and ITU-T V. 28 specifications and operates at data rates up to 460 kbps. As shown in Figure 3 in the data sheet, in standard operating mode, when ENx = 0 (internal refresh enabled), the current per channel is less than 10 μA. When ENx = 1 (internal refresh disabled), the current per channel drops to less than 1 μA.The ADuM1440/ADuM1441/ADuM1442/ADuM1445/ADuM1446/ADuM1447 family of quad 2.5 kV digital isolation devices are packaged in a small 16-lead QSOP and 20-lead SSOP, freeing almost 70% of board space compared to isolators packages in wide body SOIC packages.The devices withstand high isolation voltages and meet regulatory requirements, such as UL and CSA standards. In addition to the space savings, the ADuM1440/ADuM1441/ADuM1442/ADuM1445/ADuM1446/ADuM1447 operate with supplies as low as 2.25 V.Despite the low power consumption, all models of the ADuM1440/ADuM1441/ADuM1442/ADuM1445/ADuM1446/ADuM1447 provide low, pulse width distortion at <8 ns.
