MAX17561AUD+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX17561/MAX17562/MAX17563 adjustable overvoltage and overcurrent-protection devices are ideal to protect systems against positive and negative input voltage faults up to ±40V and feature low 100mΩ (typ) RON FETs.The adjustable overvoltage protection range is between 6V and 36V, while the adjustable undervoltage protection range is between 4.5V and 24V. The overvoltage-lockout (OVLO) and undervoltage-lockout (UVLO) thresholds are set using optional external resistors. The factory-preset internal OVLO threshold is 33V (typ) and the preset internal UVLO threshold is 19.2V (typ). The ICs also feature programmable current-limit protection up to 4.2A. Once current reaches the threshold, the MAX17561 turns off after the 20.7ms (typ) blanking time and stays off during the retry period. The MAX17562 latches off after the blanking time, and the MAX17563 limits the current continuously. In addition, these devices feature reverse current and thermal-shutdown protection. The ICs are available in a small 14-pin TSSOP (5mm x 6.5mm) package and are specified over the extended -40°C to +125°C temperature range. How to Add Overvoltage and Overcurrent Protection Using the MAX17561—Part 1How to Add Overvoltage and Overcurrent Protection Using the MAX17561—Part 2ApplicationsBattery-Powered ApplicationsConsumer ElectronicsIndustrial EquipmentMarine Equipment

Analog Devices Inc.
For new designs, please refer to MAX22195 ›The MAX31914 translates and conditions the 24V digitaloutput of sensors and switches used in industrial, process, and building automation to 5V CMOS-compatiblesignals required by microcontrollers. It provides the frontendinterface circuit of a programmable logic controller(PLC) digital input module. The signal voltage translation is performed in conjunctionwith input current limiting and lowpass filtering. Inputcurrent limiting allows a significant reduction in powerconsumed from the field-supply voltage, as comparedto traditional discrete resistor-divider implementations. To achieve the lowest in-class power dissipation, the ICuses patent-pending circuit techniques to achieve furtherreduction of power dissipation beyond what is possibleby input current limiting alone. This special low-poweroperating mode is automatically activated when on-chiplowpass filtering is selected.Selectable on-chip lowpass filters allow flexible debouncingand filtering of sensor inputs based on the application. When no filtering is selected, the IC is capable of detectingpulses as short as 0.75μs at its field inputs. All 8 input channels are translated to CMOS logic levels andpresented in parallel on the eight output pins for direct orgalvanically isolated interface with a controller ASIC ormicro. The on-chip 5V voltage regulator can be used to powerexternal optocouplers, digital isolators, or other external5V circuitry. For low-cost applications, Maxim Integrated offers a pincompatible version of this device, the MAX31915, whichdoes not include the current-switching circuitry includedin the MAX31914.ApplicationsDigital Input Modules for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)Industrial Automation, Building AutomationProcess Automation

MAX34417ENE+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX34417 is a specialized current and voltage monitor used to determine power consumption of portable systems. The device has a very wide dynamic range (20,000:1) that allows for the accurate measurement of power in such systems. The device is configured and monitored with a standard I2C/SMBus serial interface. The unidirectional current sensor offers precision high-side operation with a low full-scale sense voltage. The device automatically collects the current-sense and voltage samples and then multiplies those values to obtain a power value it then accumulates. Upon a command from the host, the device transfers the accumulated power samples, as well as the accumulation count, to a set of registers accessible by the host. This transfer occurs without missing a sample and allows the host to retrieve the data not in real-time, but at any time interval.
