The MAX16834 is a current-mode high-brightness LED (HB LED) driver for boost, boost-buck, SEPIC, and high-side buck topologies. In addition to driving an n-channel power MOSFET switch controlled by the switching controller, it also drives an n-channel PWM dimming switch to achieve LED PWM dimming. The MAX16834 integrates all the building blocks necessary to implement a fixed-frequency HB LED driver with wide-range dimming control. The MAX16834 features constant-frequency peak current-mode control with programmable slope compensation to control the duty cycle of the PWM controller.A dimming driver designed to drive an external n-channel MOSFET in series with the LED string provides wide-range dimming control up to 20kHz. In addition toPWM dimming, the MAX16834 provides analog dimming using a DC input at REFI. The programmable switching frequency (100kHz to 1MHz) allows design optimization for efficiency and board space reduction. A single resistor from RT/SYNC to ground sets the switching frequency from 100kHz to 1MHz while an external clock signal at RT/SYNC disables the internal oscillator and allows the MAX16834 to synchronize to an external clock. The MAX16834's integrated high-side current-sense amplifier eliminates the need for a separate high-side LED current-sense amplifier in boost-buck applications.The MAX16834 operates over a wide supply range of 4.75V to 28V and includes a 3A sink/source gate driver for driving a power MOSFET in high-power LED driverapplications. It can also operate at input voltages greater than 28V in boost configuration with an external voltage clamp. The MAX16834 is also suitable for DC-DC converter applications such as boost or buck-boost. The MAX16824/MAX16825 three-channel LED drivers operate over a 6.5V to 28V input voltage range. These devices provide three open-drain constant-current-sinking outputs that are rated to 36V and deliver up to 150mA of current to each string of high-brightness LEDs (HB LEDs). The current at each output is programmable by means of an external current-sense resistor. The MAX16824 features three PWM inputs that control the duty cycle of the output current, allowing a wide LED dimming range to be implemented. The PWM inputs also function as on/off control for each corresponding output. The MAX16825 offers a 4-wire serial interface, a 3-bit shift register, and a 3-bit transparent latch. The serial interface allows a microcontroller to configure the output channels using four inputs (DIN, CLK, LE, active-low OE) and a data output (DOUT). DOUT allows multiple drivers to be cascaded and operated together.The MAX16824/MAX16825's on-board pass elements minimize the need for external components, while at the same time, providing ±5% LED current accuracy. The MAX16818 pulse-width modulation (PWM) LED driver controller provides high-output-current capability in a compact package with a minimum number of external components. The MAX16818 is suitable for use in synchronous and nonsynchronous step-down (buck) topologies, as well as in boost, buck-boost, SEPIC, and Cuk LED drivers. The MAX16818 is the first LED driver controller that enables Maxim's technology for fast LED current transients of up to 20A/µs and 30kHz dimming frequency.This device utilizes average-current-mode control that enables optimal use of MOSFETs with optimal charge and on-resistance characteristics. This results in the minimized need for external heatsinking even when delivering up to 30A of LED current. True differential sensing enables accurate control of the LED current. A wide dimming range is easily implemented to accommodate an external PWM signal. An internal regulator enables operation over a wide input voltage range: 4.75V to 5.5V or 7V to 28V and above with a simple external biasing device. The wide switching frequency range, up to 1.5MHz, allows for the use of small inductors and capacitors.The MAX16818 features a clock output with 180° phase delay to control a second out-of-phase LED driver to reduce input and output filter capacitors size or to minimize ripple currents. The MAX16818 offers programmable hiccup, overvoltage, and overtemperature protection.The MAX16818ETE+ is rated for the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and the MAX16818ATE+ is rated for the automotive temperature range (-40°C to +125°C).
