The AD8280 is a hardware-only safety monitor for lithium ionbattery stacks. The device has inputs to monitor six battery cellsand two temperature sensors (either NTC or PTC thermistors).The device is designed to be daisy-chained with additional AD8280devices to monitor a stack of significantly more than six cellswithout the need for numerous isolators. The output can beconfigured for an independent or shared alarm state.The AD8280 functions independently from a primarymonitor and contains a reference and LDO, both of which arepowered completely from the battery cell stack. The reference, inconjunction with external resistor dividers, establishes trip pointsfor the overvoltages and undervoltages. Each cell channel containsprogrammable deglitching circuitry to prevent alarms fromtransient input levels.The AD8280 also has two digital pins that can select variouscombinations of inputs in the case where fewer than six cells areto be monitored. Most important, it has a self-test feature, makingit suitable for high reliability applications, such as automotivehybrid electric vehicles or higher voltage industrial usage, such asuninterruptible power supplies. The LT8355-1 a dual-channel DC/DC controller designed to drive two strings of high current LEDs. The fixed frequency, current mode architecture results in stable operation over a wide range of supply and output voltages. Voltage feedback pins serve as the inputs for several LED protection features and makes it possible for the converters to operate as a constant-voltage sources.

The LT8355-1 senses output current at the high or low side of the load. The product of CTRL2 and IADJ2 inputs provides analog programming of the output current for channel 2. Channel 1 output current is programmed through CTRL1 input. The PWM input and PWMTG high side PMOS driver provides precision time-based LED dimming capability. When driven by an external digital signal, the PWM input provides LED dimming ratios of up to 20,000:1 at 100Hz. When driven by a constant voltage, the PWM input selects from one of 128 internally generated, precision, exponentially spaced dimming ratios ranging from 0.78% up to 100%.

The AD8451 is a precision analog front end and controller for testing and monitoring battery cells. A precision fixed gain instrumentation amplifier (IA) measures the battery charge/discharge current, and a fixed gain difference amplifier (DA) measures the battery voltage. Internal laser trimmed resistor networks set the gains for the IA and the DA, optimizing the performance of the AD8451 over the rated temperature range. The IA gain is 26 and the DA gain is 0.8 V/V.Voltages at the ISET and VSET inputs set the desired constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) values. CC to CV switching is automatic and transparent to the system.A TTL logic level input, MODE, selects the charge or discharge mode (high for charge, low for discharge). An analog output, VCTRL, interfaces directly with the Analog Devices, Inc., ADP1972 PWM controller.The AD8451 simplifies designs by providing excellent accuracy, performance over temperature, flexibility with functionality, and overall reliability in a space-saving package.
