Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX77860 is a high-performance single input switch mode charger that features USB Type-C CC detection capability in addition to reverse boost capability and a Safeout LDO.This switched-mode battery charger with two integrated switches, provides small inductor and capacitor sizes, programmable battery charging current, and is ideally suited for portable devices such as smartphones, IoT devices, and other Li-ion battery powered electronics. The charger features a single input, which works for both USB and high voltage adapters. It supports USB Type-C CC detection under BC 1.2 specification, and the power-path switch is integrated in the chip. All MAX77860 blocks connected to the adapter/USB pin are protected from input overvoltage events up to 14V. The USB-OTG output provides true-load disconnect and is protected by an adjustable output current limit. It has an input current limit up to 4.0A and can charge a single-cell battery up to 3.15A. When configured in reverse-boost mode, the IC requires no additional inductors to power USB-OTG accessories. The switching charger is designed with a special CC, CV, and die temperature regulation algorithm, as well as I2C programmable settings to accommodate a wide range of battery sizes and system loads. The on-chip ADC can help monitor the charging input voltage/current, battery voltage, charging/discharging current, and the battery temperature. The MAX77860 communicates through an I2C 3.0 compatible serial interface consisting of a bidirectional serial data line (SDA) and a serial clock line (SCL). The IC is available in a 3.9mm x 4.0mm, 81-bump (9 x 9 array), 0.4mm pitch, wafer-level package (WLP). MAX77985BEFD+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX77985/MAX77986 is a high-performance high input range 3.5/5.5A fast charger with Smart Power SelectorTM. The IC can operate as a reverse boost without an additional inductor, allowing the battery to share its power through the charging port with voltage programmable from 5V to 12V. The device features fully integrated low-loss power switches to provide a small solution size and high efficiency, even at high input voltage and high charging current. Its high switching frequency allows the use of a smaller sized inductor. Li-ion, Li-polymer, and LiFePO4 battery chemistries are supported. The IC is compatible with USB Power Delivery sources with input current capability up to 5A. It can also provide fast unplug detection of 9V and 15V sources for dynamic management of system load. The IC also helps mitigate EMI with the spread spectrum feature. The IC features true load disconnection in reverse boost mode and has an adjustable output current protection limit. The device is highly flexible and programmable through I2C configuration. The battery charger includes a Smart Power Selector to accommodate a wide range of battery sizes and system loads. The Smart Power Selector allows the system to start up gracefully as soon as an input source is available, even when the battery is deeply discharged (dead battery) or missing. It can be configured so that when power is applied to the charger input, the battery charging can automatically start. APPLICATIONS Gaming Devices VR Applications mPOS Tablet PCs

MAX1259EWE+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1259 battery manager provides backup-batteryswitching for CMOS RAM, microprocessors, or otherlow-power logic ICs. It automatically switches to thebackup battery when the primary power supply is interrupted.Low-loss switches guarantee an input-to-outputdifferential of only 200mV while supplying 250mA fromthe primary power supply or 15mA from the battery.Battery discharge during shipping does not occur in theMAX1259, since the backup battery can be disconnectedby strobing the RST input.A battery-fail output signal indicates when the backupbattery is below +2V, and a power-fail output signal indicateswhen the primary power supply is low. TheMAX1259 monitors the backup battery, warns ofimpending power failures, and switches the memory tothe battery when failures occur. The MAX1259 is pin-compatiblewith the DS1259, but consumes three timesless supply current. Commercial, extended, and militarytemperature range devices are available.ApplicationsBattery Backup for CMOS RAMComputersControllersUninterruptible Power Supplies

MAX1873REEE+
Analog Devices Inc.
The low-cost MAX1873R/S/T provides all functions needed to simply and efficiently charge 2-, 3-, or 4-series lithium-ion cells at up to 4A or more. It provides a regulated charging current and voltage with less than ±0.75% total voltage error at the battery terminals. An external P-channel MOSFET operates in a step-down DC-DC configuration to efficiently charge batteries in low-cost designs. The MAX1873R/S/T regulates the battery voltage and charging current using two control loops that work together to transition smoothly between voltage and current regulation. An additional control loop limits current drawn from the input source so that AC adapter size and cost can be minimized. An analog voltage output proportional to charging current is also supplied so that an ADC or microcontroller can monitor charging current. The MAX1873 may also be used as an efficient current-limited source to charge NiCd or NiMH batteries in multichemistry charger designs. The MAX1873R/S/T is available in a space-saving 16-pin QSOP package. MAX1925ETC+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1925/MAX1926 single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) switch-mode battery chargers use an external PMOS pass element step-down configuration. Charge current is programmable, and an external capacitor sets the maximum charge time.Additional features include automatic input power detection (active-low ACON output), logic-controlled enable, and temperature monitoring with an external thermistor. The MAX1925 disables charging for inputs greater than 6.1V, while the MAX1926 charges for inputs between 4.25V and 12V.The MAX1925/MAX1926 feature two precondition levels to restore near-dead cells. The devices source 4mA to a cell that is below 2V while sourcing C/10 to a cell between 2V and 3V. Full charge current is then applied above 3V. A active-low CHG output drives an LED to indicate charging (LED on) and fault conditions (LED blinking). The MAX1925/MAX1926 are available in a 12-pin 4mm x 4mm thin QFN package and are specified over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). An evaluation kit is available to speed design.ApplicationsCradle ChargersDigital Still CamerasPDAsSelf-Charging Battery Packs

MAX846AEEE+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX846A is a cost-saving multichemistry battery-charger system that comes in a space-saving 16-pin QSOP. This integrated system allows different battery chemistries (Li-Ion, NiMH or NiCd cells) to be charged using one circuit. In its simplest application, the MAX846A is a stand-alone, current-limited float voltage source that charges Li-Ion cells. It can also be paired up with a low-cost microcontroller (µC) to build a universal charger capable of charging Li-Ion, NiMH, and NiCd cells. An internal 0.5%-accurate reference allows safe charging of Li-Ion cells that require tight voltage accuracy. The voltage- and current-regulation loops used to control a low-cost external PNP transistor (or P-channel MOSFET) are independent of each other, allowing more flexibility in the charging algorithms. The MAX846A has a built-in 1%, 3.3V, 20mA linear regulator capable of powering the µC and providing a reference for the µC's analog-to-digital converters. An on-board reset notifies the controller upon any unexpected loss of power. The µC can be inexpensive, since its only functions are to monitor the voltage and current and to change the charging algorithms.ApplicationsCell PhonesDesktop Cradle ChargersHandheld Instruments (PDAs, Palmtops)Li+ Battery PacksLi+-Ion/NiMH/NiCd Multichemistry Battery ChargersNotebook Computers
