Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX856-MAX859 are high-efficiency, CMOS, step-up, DC-DC switching regulators for small, low input voltage or battery-powered systems. The MAX856/MAX858 accept a positive input voltage between 0.8V and VOUT and convert it to a higher, pin-selectable output voltage of 3.3V or 5V. The MAX857/MAX859 adjustable versions accept 0.8V to 6.0V input voltages and generate higher adjustable output voltages in the 2.7V to 6.0V range. Typical efficiencies are greater than 85%. Typical quiescent supply current is 25µA (1µA in shutdown). The MAX856-MAX859 combine ultra-low quiescent supply current and high efficiency to give maximum battery life. An internal MOSFET power transistor permits high switching frequencies. This benefit, combined with internally set peak inductor current limits, permits the use of small, low-cost inductors. The MAX856/MAX857 have a 500mA peak inductor current limit. The MAX858/MAX859 have a 125mA peak inductor current limit.Applications2-Cell and 3-Cell Battery-Operated Equipment3.3V to 5V Step-Up ConversionGlucose MetersMedical InstrumentationPalmtop ComputersPersonal Data Communicators/ComputersPortable Data-Collection Equipment

The MAX873/MAX875/MAX876 precision 2.5V, 5V, and10V references offer excellent accuracy and very lowpower consumption. Extremely low temperature driftcombined with excellent line and load regulation permitstable operation over a wide range of electrical and environmentalconditions. Operation for the MAX873 is guaranteedwith a +4.5V supply, making the part ideal insystems running from a +5V ±10% supply. Low 10Hz to1kHz noise—typically 3.8µVRMS, 9µVRMS, and 18µVRMS, respectively, for the MAX873, MAX875, MAX876—make the parts suitable for 12-bit data-acquisition systems.A TRIM pin facilitates adjustment of the reference voltageover a ±6% range, using only a 100kΩ potentiometer. Avoltage output proportional to temperature provides asource for temperature compensation circuits, temperaturewarning circuits, and other applications.Applications12-Bit ADCs and DACsDigital MultimetersLow-Power Test EquipmentPortable Data-Acquisition Systems

The MAX882/MAX883/MAX884 linear regulators maximize battery life by combining ultra-low supply currents and low dropout voltages. They feature 200mA output current capability at up to +125°C junction temperature and come in a 1.5W SOIC package. The 1.5W package (compared to 0.47W for standard SOIC packages) allows a wider operating range for the input voltage and output current. The MAX882/MAX883/MAX884 use a p-channel MOSFET pass transistor to maintain a low 11µA (15µA max) supply current from no-load to the full 200mA output. Unlike earlier bipolar regulators, there are no PNP base current losses that increase with output current. In dropout, the MOSFET does not suffer from excessive base currents that occur when PNP transistors go into saturation. Typical dropout voltages are 220mV at 5V and 200mA, or 320mV at 3.3V and 200mA.The MAX882 features a 7µA standby mode that disables the output but keeps the reference, low-battery comparator, and biasing circuitry alive. The MAX883/MAX884 feature a shutdown (OFF) mode that turns off all circuitry, reducing supply current to less than 1µA. All three devices include a low-battery-detection comparator, fold-back current limiting, reverse-current protection, and thermal-overload protection. The output is preset at 3.3V for the MAX882/MAX884 and 5V for the MAX883. In addition, all devices employ Dual Mode™ operation, allowing user-adjustable outputs from 1.25V to 11V using external resistors. The input voltage supply range is 2.7V to 11.5V.For low-dropout linear regulators with output currents up to 500mA, refer to the MAX603/MAX604 data sheet.Applications1.25V to 11V Adjustable Regulators3.3V and 5V RegulatorsAutomotive ElectronicsHigh-Efficiency Linear RegulatorsPagers and Cell PhonesPortable InstrumentationSolar-Powered Instruments

The MAX8885 low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator operates from a +2.5V to +6.5V input voltage range and delivers up to 150mA. It uses a P-channel MOSFET pass transistor to allow a low 85µA supply current-which is independent of the load-as well as LDO voltage. The MAX8885 is optimized to operate with low-cost, high-ESR output capacitors such as small case-size tantalum capacitors. It is ideal for cost-sensitive portable equipment such as PCS and cellular phones. For a pin-compatible, functionally equivalent device for use with a low-ESR, ceramic output capacitor, refer to the MAX8875 data sheet. The MAX8885 features a power-OK output that indicates when the output is out of regulation, and is available in preset output voltage versions of 5.0V, 3.3V, 3.0V, 2.7V, and 2.5V. Other features include 1µA (max) shutdown current, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown protection, and reverse-battery protection.
