The MAX6695/MAX6696 are precise, dual-remote, and local digital temperature sensors. They accurately measure the temperature of their own die and two remote diode-connected transistors, and report the temperature in digital form on a 2-wire serial interface. The remote diode is typically the emitter-base junction of a common-collector PNP on a CPU, FPGA, GPU, or ASIC.The 2-wire serial interface accepts standard system management bus (SMBus) commands such as Write Byte, Read Byte, Send Byte, and Receive Byte to read the temperature data and program the alarm thresholds and conversion rate. The MAX6695/MAX6696 can function autonomously with a programmable conversion rate, which allows control of supply current and temperature update rate to match system needs. For conversion rates of 2Hz or less, the temperature is represented as 10 bits + sign with a resolution of +0.125°C. When the conversion rate is 4Hz, output data is 7 bits + sign with a resolution of +1°C. The MAX6695/MAX6696 also include an SMBus timeout feature to enhance system reliability.Remote temperature sensing accuracy is ±1.5°C between +60°C and +100°C with no calibration needed. The MAX6695/MAX6696 measure temperatures from -40°C to +125°C. In addition to the SMBus active-low ALERT output, the MAX6695/MAX6696 feature two overtemperature limit indicators (active-low OT1 and active-low OT2), which are active only while the temperature is above the corresponding programmable temperature limits. The active-low OT1 and active-low OT2 outputs are typically used for fan control, clock throttling, or system shutdown.The MAX6695 has a fixed SMBus address. The MAX6696 has nine different pin-selectable SMBus addresses. The MAX6695 is available in a 10-pin µMAX® and the MAX6696 is available in a 16-pin QSOP package. The MAX6509/MAX6510 are fully integrated, resistor-programmable temperature switches with thresholds set by an external resistor. They require only one external resistor to set the temperature threshold within a wide -40±C to +125±C temperature range. The MAX6509 provides an open-drain output. The MAX6510 features three selectable output options: active-low, active-high, and open drain with an internal pull-up resistor.These switches operate with a +2.7V to +5.5V single supply while providing a temperature threshold accuracy of ±0.5°C (typ) or ±4.7°C (max). They typically consume 32µA supply current. The MAX6633/MAX6634/MAX6635 combine a temperature sensor, a programmable overtemperature alarm, and an SMBus™/I²C-compatible serial interface into a single package. They convert their die temperatures into digital values using internal analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The result of the conversion is then held in a temperature register as a 12-bit + sign value, allowing 0.0625°C resolution, readable at any time through the serial interface. The devices are capable of reading temperatures up to +150°C.The MAX6633/MAX6634/MAX6635 feature a shutdown mode that saves power by turning off everything except the power-on reset (POR) and the serial interface. The devices can be configured to separate addresses, allowing multiple devices to be used on the same bus.The MAX6633 has four address pins, allowing up to 16 devices to be connected to a single bus. The MAX6634 has three address pins, allowing up to eight devices to be connected to a single bus. The MAX6635 has two address pins, allowing up to four devices to be connected to a single bus.The MAX6633/MAX6634/MAX6635 make temperature data available for transfer over the serial interface. The MAX6634 incorporates a dual-mode active-low ALERT output (open drain) and can serve as an upgraded alternative to the LM75. The MAX6635 includes an active-low ALERT output and an active-low OVERT output (both open drain) and can function as an upgraded replacement for the LM76 in most applications. The MAX6655/MAX6656 are precise voltage and temperature monitors. The digital thermometer reports the temperature of two remote sensors and its own die temperature. The remote sensors are diode-connected transistors—typically a low-cost, easily mounted 2N3906 PNP type—that replace conventional thermistors or thermocouples. Remote accuracy is ±1°C for multiple transistor manufacturers with no calibration necessary. The remote channels can also measure the die temperature of other ICs, such as microprocessors, that contain a substrate-connected PNP with its collector grounded and its base and emitter available for temperature-sensing purposes. The temperature is digitized with 11-bit resolution.The MAX6655/MAX6656 also measure their own supply voltage and three external voltages with 8-bit resolution. Each voltage input's sensitivity is set to give approximately 3/4-scale output code when the input voltage is at its nominal value. The MAX6655 operates at +5V supply and its second voltage monitor is 3.3V. The MAX6656 operates on a +3.3V supply and its second voltage monitor is 5V.The 2-wire serial interface accepts standard SMBus™ Write Byte, Read Byte, Send Byte, and Receive Byte commands to program the alarm thresholds and to read data. The MAX6655/MAX6656 also provide SMBus alert response and timeout functions. The MAX6655/MAX6656 measure automatically and autonomously, with the conversion rate programmable. The adjustable rate allows the user to control the supply current.In addition to the SMBus active-low ALERT output, the MAX6655/MAX6656 feature an active-low OVERT output, which is used as a temperature reset that remains active only while the temperature is above the maximum temperature limit.
