AD8310-EVALZ

Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8310 is a complete, dc to 440 MHz demodulating logarithmic amplifier (log amp) with a very fast voltage mode output, capable of driving up to 25 mA into a grounded load in under 15 ns. It uses the progressive compression (successive detection) technique to provide a dynamic range of up to 95 dB to ?3 dB law conformance or 90 dB to a ?1 dB error bound up to 100 MHz. It is extremely stable and easy to use, requiring no significant external components. A single-supply voltage of 2.7 V to 5.5 V at 8 mA is needed, corresponding to a power consumption of only 24 mW at 3 V. A fast-acting CMOS-compatible enable pin is provided. Each of the six cascaded amplifier/limiter cells has a small-signal gain of 14.3 dB, with a ?3 dB bandwidth of 900 MHz. A total of nine detector cells are used to provide a dynamic range that extends from ?91 dBV (where 0 dBV is defined as the amplitude of a 1 V rms sine wave), an amplitude of about ?40 ?V, up to +4 dBV (or ?2.2 V). The demodulated output is accurately scaled, with a log slope of 24 mV/dB and an intercept of ?108 dBV. The scaling parameters are supply- and temperature-independent.The fully differential input offers a moderately high impedance (1 k? in parallel with about 1 pF). A simple network can match the input to 50 ? and provide a power sensitivity of ?78 dBm to +17 dBm. The logarithmic linearity is typically within ?0.4 dB up to 100 MHz over the central portion of the range, but it is somewhat greater at 440 MHz. There is no minimum frequency limit; the AD8310 can be used down to low audio frequencies. Special filtering features are provided to support this wide range. The output voltage runs from a noise-limited lower boundary of 400 mV to an upper limit within 200 mV of the supply voltage for light loads. The slope and intercept can be readily altered using external resistors. The output is tolerant of a wide variety of load conditions and is stable with capacitive loads of 100 pF.The AD8310 provides a unique combination of low cost, small size, low power consumption, high accuracy and stability, high dynamic range, a frequency range encompassing audio to UHF, fast response time, and good load-driving capabilities, making this product useful in numerous applications that require the reduction of a signal to its decibel equivalent. The AD8310 is available in the industrial temperature range of ?40?C to +85?C in an 8-lead MSOP package.Applications Conversion of signal level to decibel form Transmitter antenna power measurement Receiver signal strength indication (RSSI) Low cost radar and sonar signal processing Network and spectrum analyzers Signal-level determination down to 20 Hz True-decibel ac mode for multimeters

AD8319-EVALZ

Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8319 is a demodulating logarithmic amplifier, capable of accurately converting an RF input signal to a corresponding decibel-scaled output. It employs the progressive compression technique over a cascaded amplifier chain, each stage of which is equipped with a detector cell. The device can be used in either measurement or controller modes. The AD8319 maintains accurate log conformance for signals of 1 MHz to 8 GHz and provides useful operation to 10 GHz. The input dynamic range is typically 40 dB (re: 50 ?) with error less than ?1 dB. The AD8319 has 8 ns/10 ns response time (fall time/rise time) that enables RF burst detection to a pulse rate of beyond 50 MHz. The device provides unprecedented logarithmic intercept stability vs. ambient temperature conditions. A supply of 3.0 V to 5.5 V is required to power the device. Current consumption is typically 22 mA, and it decreases to 200 ?A when the device is disabled.?The AD8319 can be configured to provide a control voltage to a power amplifier or a measurement output from the VOUT pin. Because the output can be used for controller applications, special attention was paid to minimize wideband noise. In this mode, the setpoint control voltage is applied to the VSET pin.The feedback loop through an RF amplifier is closed via VOUT, the output of which regulates the amplifier?s output to a magnitude corresponding to VSET. The AD8319 provides 0 V to (VPOS ? 0.1 V) output capability at the VOUT pin, suitable for controller applications. As a measurement device, VOUT is externally connected to VSET to produce an output voltage, VOUT, that is a decreasing linear-in-dB function of the RF input signal amplitude. The logarithmic slope is ?22 mV/dB, determined by the VSET interface. The intercept is 15 dBm (re: 50 ?, CW input) using the INHI input. These parameters are very stable against supply and temperature variations. The AD8319 is fabricated on a SiGe bipolar IC process and is available in a 2 mm ? 3 mm, 8-lead LFCSP_VD for an operating temperature range of ?40?C to +85?C.ApplicationsRF transmitter PA setpoint controls and level monitoring Power monitoring in radiolink transmitters RSSI measurement in base stations, WLANs, WiMAX, and radars

AD8333-EVALZ

Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8333 is a dual-phase shifter and I/Q demodulator that enables coherent summing and phase alignment of multiple analog data channels. It is the first solid-state device suitable forbeamformer circuits, such as those used in high performance medical ultrasound equipment featuring CW Doppler. The RF inputs interface directly with the outputs of the dual-channel, low noise preamplifiers included in the?AD8332.A divide-by-4 circuit generates the internal 0? and 90? phases of the local oscillator (LO) that drive the mixers of a pair of matched I/Q demodulators. The AD8333 can be applied as a major element in analog beamformer circuits in medical ultrasound equipment. The AD8333 features an asynchronous reset pin. When used in arrays, the reset pin sets all the LO dividers in the same state. Sixteen discrete phase rotations in 22.5? increments can be selected independently for each channel. For example, if Channel 1 is used as a reference and the RF signal applied to Channel 2 has an I/Q phase lead of 45?, Channel 2 can be phase aligned with Channel 1 by choosing the correct code.Phase shift is defined by the output of one channel relative to another. For example, if the code of Channel 1 is adjusted to 0000 and that of Channel 2 to 0001 and the same signal is applied to both RF inputs, the output of Channel 2 leads that of Channel 1 by 22.5?.The I and Q outputs are provided as currents to facilitate summation. The summed current outputs are converted to voltages by a high dynamic-range, current-to-voltage (I-V) converter, such as the AD8021, configured as a transimpedance amplifier. The resultant signal is then applied to a high resolution ADC, such as the AD7665 (16 bit/570 kSPS).The two I/Q demodulators can be used independently in other nonbeamforming applications. In that case, a transimpedance amplifier is needed for each of the I and Q outputs, four in total for the dual I/Q demodulator. The dynamic range is 159 dB/Hz at each I and Q output, but the following transimpedance amplifier is an important element in maintaining the overall dynamic range, and attention needs to be paid to optimal component selection and design. The AD8333 is available in a 32-lead LFCSP (5 mm ? 5 mm) package for the industrial temperature range of ?40?C to +85?C.Applications Medical imaging (CW ultrasound beamforming) Phased array systems (radar and adaptive antennas) Communication receivers

The ADMV1017 is a silicon germanium (SiGe), microwave, upconverter and downconverter optimized for 5G radio designs operating in the 24 GHz to 29.5 GHz frequency range. The upconverter offers two modes of frequency translation. The device is capable of direct conversion to radio frequency (RF) from differential baseband I/Q input signals, as well as single-sideband (SSB) upconversion from complex intermediate frequency (IF) inputs. Alternatively, the differential baseband I/Q input path can be disabled and a modulated, single-ended, complex IF signals from 3 GHz to 10.5 GHz can be fed to the IF path. These signals can then be upconverted to 24 GHz to 29.5 GHz while rejecting the unwanted sideband by typically better than 25 dBc. The serial port interface (SPI) provides adjustment of the quadrature phase to allow optimum sideband rejection. In addition, the SPI interface allows powering down the output envelope detector to reduce power consumption when carrier feed through optimization is not necessary. The downconverter offers two modes of frequency translation. The device is capable of direct quadrature demodulation to differential baseband I/Q output signals, as well as image rejection downconversion to a single-ended complex IF output carrier frequency. The differential baseband outputs can be dc-coupled. More typically, however, the I/Q outputs are ac-coupled with a sufficiently low high-pass corner frequency to ensure adequate demodulation accuracy. The I/Q baseband output common-mode voltage is programmable between 0.75 V and 2.15 V. The SPI interface provides fine adjustment of the quadrature phase to optimize I/Q demodulation performance. Alternatively, the baseband I/Q outputs can be disabled, and the I/Q signals can be passed through an on-chip, active balun to provide two, single-ended, complex IF outputs between 3 GHz and 10.5 GHz. ADMV4530IQ-EVALZ

Analog Devices Inc.
The ADMV4530 is a highly integrated upconverter with an in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) mixer that is ideally suited for next generation Ka band satellite communications. An integrated low phase noise, fractional-N phase-locked loop (PLL) with a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and internal 2? multiplier generate the necessary on-chip local oscillator (LO) signal for the I/Q mixer, eliminating the need for external frequency synthesis. The VCO uses an internal autocalibration routine that allows the PLL to select the necessary settings and locks in approximately 100 ?s.The single-ended reference input to the PLL operates up to 500 MHz and features internal reference dividers and a multiplier for added flexibility. Additionally, the phase frequency detector (PFD) comparison frequency can be up to 250 MHz for integer mode and 160 MHz for fraction-N mode. The upconverter consists of an I/Q mixer that can operate in either I/Q mode with 500 MHz of bandwidth or in IF mode up to 3 GHz of bandwidth, which allows various radio architectures and backward compatibility with legacy systems.Immediately following the I/Q mixer are stages of gain and variable attenuation. The configuration can achieve a minimum 1 dB compression point (P1dB) compression point of 19 dBm, eliminating the need for external stages of gain.A programmable 4-wire serial port interface (SPI) allows adjustment of the quadrature phase for optimum sideband suppression. In addition, the SPI allows nulling of LO feedthrough in IF mode. In I/Q mode, the LO feedthrough can be nulled by applying external dc offset to the differential baseband I/Q inputs. An IF automatic gain control (AGC) adjusts the IF variable gain amplifier (VGA) to compensate for input power variations. During normal operation, this AGC feature can be enabled or disabled via the SPI. When disabled during normal operation, the AGC feature only works on a test tone during power-down mode to track temperature variations. The ADMV4530 upconverter comes in a RoHs compliant, 6 mm ? 6 mm, 40-terminal land grid array (LGA) package. The ADMV4530 operates over the ?40?C to +85?C case temperature range.Applications Satellite communication Point to point microwave communication

Depending on the control voltage at the CONT input, the ADN8833 drives current through a TEC to settle the temperature of a laser diode or a passive component attached to the TEC module to the programmed target temperature. The control voltage applied to the CONT input is generated by a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) closing the digital proportional, integral, derivative (PID) loop of temperature control system. The internal 2.5 V reference voltage provides a 1% accurate output that is used to bias a voltage divider network to program the maximum TEC current and voltage limits for both the heating and cooling modes. It can also be a reference voltage for the DAC and the temperature sensing circuit, including a thermistor bridge and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC).APPLICATIONS TEC temperature control Optical modules Optical fiber amplifiers Optical networking systems Instruments requiring TEC temperature control
