Demonstration circuit 1471 is a monolithic step-down DC/DC switching regulator featuring the LT3990. The switching frequency is adjustable up to 2.2MHz. The demo circuit is designed for 5V, 350mA output from a 6.5V to 62V input. The wide input range of the LT3990 allows a variety of input sources including automotive batteries and 24V industrial supplies. Low ripple Burst Mode increases the efficiency at the light load while keeping the output ripple below 5mV in a typical application. The part is in shutdown when the EN pin is low and active when the pin is high. The threshold of the EN pin is accurate at 1V when VIN is above 4.2V. Adding a resistor divider from VIN to EN can program the LT3990 to regulate the output only when VIN is above a desired voltage. The catch diode and boost diode are integrated to reduce the components count and solution size. The circuit consumes only 2.5μA of quiescent current.

The LTC3612 is a low quiescent current monolithic synchronous buck regulator using a current mode, constant frequency architecture. The no-load DC supply current in sleep mode is only 70?A while maintaining the output voltage (Burst Mode operation) at no load, dropping to zero current in shutdown. The 2.25V to 5.5V input supply voltage range makes the LTC3612 ideally suited for single Li-Ion as well as fixed low voltage input applications. 100% duty cycle capability provides low dropout operation, extending the operating time in battery-powered systems.The operating frequency is externally programmable up to 4MHz, allowing the use of small surface mount inductors. The LTC4126-ADJ is a low-power wireless single-cell Li-Ion battery charger with an integrated step-down DC/DC regulator. The step-down regulator is a low-noise multimode charge pump which is powered from the battery and provides a regulated 1.2V at the output. The switching frequency is set to either 50kHz or 75kHz depending on the mode to keep any switching noise out of the audible range.The constant-current constant-voltage Li-Ion battery charger has automatic recharge, automatic termination by safety timer, and battery temperature monitoring via an NTC pin. Charge current is programmable from 1mA to 50mA via an external resistor. Undervoltage protection disconnects the battery from all loads when the battery voltage is below 3.0V.The small package and minimal external component count make the LTC4126-ADJ and its variants suitable for hearing aid applications and other low power portable devices.
