The MAX3643 burst-mode laser driver provides bias and modulation current drive for PON burst-mode ONT applications. It is specifically designed for use with a low-cost external controller for the APC (and if desired, AMC) loop. A high-speed differential burst-enable input enables the driver to switch the laser from a dark (output off) condition to full on condition in less than 2ns.When BEN is inactive, typical modulation and bias currents are 5µA each.Laser modulation current can be set from 10mA to 85mA and bias current can be set from 1mA to 70mA using the MODSET and BIASSET inputs. A sample-and-hold circuit is provided to capture the monitor diode output during short PON bursts, if needed, and the BEN high-speed signal is mirrored on an LVCMOS output to be used by the controller operating the APC/AMC loop.The MAX3643 burst-mode laser driver is packaged in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin thin QFN package. The MAX3946 is a +3.3V, multirate, low-power laser diode driver designed for Ethernet and Fibre Channel transmission systems at data rates up to 11.3Gbps. This device is optimized to drive a differential transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) with a 25Ω flex circuit. The unique design of the output stage enables use of unmatched TOSAs, greatly reducing headroom limitations and lowering power consumption.The device receives differential CML-compatible signals with on-chip line termination. It can deliver laser modulation current of up to 80mA, at an edge speed of 22ps (20% to 80%), into a 5Ω to 25Ω external differential load. The device is designed to have a symmetrical output stage with on-chip back terminations integrated into its outputs. A high-bandwidth, fully differential signal path is implemented to minimize deterministic jitter. An equalization block can be activated to compensate for the SFP+ connector. The integrated bias circuit provides programmable laser bias current up to 80mA. Both the laser bias generator and the laser modulator can be disabled from a single pin.A 3-wire digital interface reduces the pin count and permits adjustment of input equalization, pulse-width adjustment, Tx polarity, Tx deemphasis, modulation current, and bias current without the need for external components. The MAX3948 is a 3.3V, multirate, low-power laser diode driver designed for Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and SONET transmission systems at data rates up to 11.3Gbps. This device is optimized to drive a differential transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) with a 25Ω flex circuit. The unique design of the output stage enables DC-coupling to unmatched TOSAs, thereby lowering transmitter power consumption by more than 100mW. The MAX3948 receives differential AC-coupled signals with on-chip termination. It can deliver laser modulation currents of up to 85mA at an edge speed of 26ps (20% to 80%) into a 5Ω external differential load. The device is designed to have a high-bandwidth differential signal path with on-chip back termination resistors integrated into its outputs. An input equalization block can be activated to compensate for SFP+/QSFP+ host connector losses. The integrated DC circuit provides programmable laser DC currents up to 61mA. Both the laser DC current generator and the laser modulator can be disabled from a single pin. The device offers one dedicated pin (VSEL) to program up to four channel addresses for multichannel applications. The use of a 3-wire digital interface reduces the pin count while permitting adjustment of input equalization, polarity, output deemphasis, and modulation and DC currents without the need for external components.
