Demonstration circuit DC2744 is a two stage DC/DC boost
converter featuring the LTC7840, a constant frequency
current mode boost controller. The DC2744A operates
over a 9V to 36V input voltage range. The first stage boost
generates VOUT1 at 48V. The second stage boost takes
this 48V input and provides a 240V output with 0.7A of
load current. The 150kHz constant
frequency operation results in a small and efficient circuit.
The converter provides high output voltage accuracy
(typically ±3%) over a wide load range with no minimum
load requirement. The demonstration circuit can be easily
modified to generate different output voltages.
The DC2744 has small circuit footprint. It is a high performance
cost effective solution for applications that require
high step-up voltage ratios and high output power.

LTC3309A | 5V, 6A Synchronous Step-Down Silent Switcher in 2mm × 2mm LQFN

Demonstration Circuit 2745A features the LTC3309A 5V, 6A synchronous step-down silent switcher operating as a 2MHz 3.3V to 1.2V 6A buck regulator. The LTC3309A supports adjustable output voltages from 0.5V to VIN, operating frequencies from 1MHz up to 3MHz. The LTC3309A is a compact, ultralow emission, high efficiency, and high speed synchronous monolithic step-down switching regulator. Fast minimum on-time of 22ns enables high VIN to low VOUT conversion at high frequency.
DC2745A operating mode may be selected as Burst Mode® operation, skip or forced continuous (FC) mode. Setting JP1 to the FC/SYNC position will allow the LTC3309A to sync to a clock frequency from 1MHz to 3MHz. The LTC3309A operates in forced continuous mode when syncing to an external clock. RT is connected to VIN through a 0Ω resistor, R9, which sets the operating frequency to 2MHz. The frequency can be easily changed by removing R9 and setting an appropriate resistor in the R4 location to obtain the desired frequency. Refer to the LTC3309A data sheet for the proper RT value.
The DC2745A also has an EMI filter to reduce conducted EMI. This EMI filter can be included by applying the input voltage at the VIN EMI terminal. The EMI performance of the board is shown in the EMI Test Results section. The red lines in the EMI performance graphs illustrate the CISPR25 Class 5 peak limits for the conducted and radiated emission tests.
The LTC3309A data sheet gives a complete description of the part, operation and application information. The data sheet must be read in conjunction with this demo. The LTC3309A is assembled in a 3mm × 3mm LQFN package with exposed pads for low thermal resistance. The layout recommendations for low EMI operation and maximum thermal performance are available in the data sheet section Low EMI PCB Layout.
The Efficiency vs Load graph shows the efficiency and the power loss of the circuit with a 3.3V input in Burst Mode operation. The LTC3309A is available in a 12-lead 2mm × 2mm LGA package.

Demonstration circuit 2814A-B is a high voltage, high efficiency synchronous buck-boost DC/DC converter with an input voltage range of 9V to 80V. It can supply a 2.5A maximum load current with an output range of 24V to 34V. The demo board features the LT8210EUJ controller. The constant frequency current mode architecture allows a phase-lockable frequency of up to 400kHz, while an optional input or output current feedback loop provides support for applications such as battery charging. With a wide input range, wide output range, and seamless transfers between operation modes, the LT8210 is ideal for industrial, automotive, medical, military, and avionics applications.
The converter has four modes of operation: burst, pulse skip, forced continuous mode, or pass-thru. Pass-thru is a feature that passes the input directly to the output when the input voltage is within a user programmable window. Switching losses drop to zero and efficiency is maximized. For input voltage above or below the pass-thru window, the buck or boost regulation loops maintain the output at the set maximum or minimum values, respectively. Reverse input protection to –40V is also implemented on this demo board.

The LT3120 is a high efficiency 26V monolithic buck-boost converter. Extensive feature integration and very low resistance internal power switches minimize the total solution footprint for even the most demanding applications. The ADM1073 is a full-feature, negative voltage, hot swap controller that allows boards to be safely inserted and removed from a live ?48 V backplane. The part provides precise and robust current limiting, and protection against both transient and nontransient short circuits in overvoltage and undervoltage conditions. The ADM1073 can operate from a negative voltage of ?18 V to ?80 V and can tolerate transient voltages of up to ?200 V.Inrush current is limited to a programmable value by control-ling the gate drive of an external N-channel FET. The maximum current limit is set by the choice of the sense resistor, RSENSE.A built-in soft start function allows control of the inrush current profile by an external capacitor on the soft start (SS) pin.An external capacitor on the TIMER pin determines the time for which the FET gate is controlled to be high when maximum inrush current flows.
