The ADuM3400/ADuM3401/ADuM3402 are 4-channel digitalisolators based on the Analog Devices, Inc., iCoupler® technology.Combining high speed CMOS and monolithic air coretransformer technology, these isolation components provideoutstanding performance characteristics superior to alternativessuch as optocoupler devices.iCoupler devices remove the design difficulties commonlyassociated with optocouplers. Typical optocoupler concernsregarding uncertain current transfer ratios, nonlinear transferfunctions, and temperature and lifetime effects are eliminatedwith the simple iCoupler digital interfaces and stable performancecharacteristics. The need for external drivers and other discretecomponents is eliminated with these iCoupler products. Furthermore,iCoupler devices consume one-tenth to one-sixth thepower of optocouplers at comparable signal data rates.The isolators provide four independent isolation channels in avariety of channel configurations and data rates (see theOrdering Guide). All models operate with the supply voltage oneither side ranging from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, providing compatibilitywith lower voltage systems as well as enabling a voltagetranslation functionality across the isolation barrier. Theisolators have a patented refresh feature that ensures dc correctnessin the absence of input logic transitions and during powerup/power-downconditions.In comparison to the ADuM1400/ADuM1401/ADuM1402isolators, the ADuM3400/ADuM3401/ADuM3402 isolatorscontain various circuit and layout changes to provide increasedcapability relative to system-level IEC 61000-4-x testing (ESD/burst/surge). The precise capability in these tests for either set ofisolators is strongly determined by the design and layout of theuser’s board or module. The ADM1192 is an integrated current sense amplifier that offers digital current and voltage monitoring via an on-chip, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), communicated through an I2C interface.An internal current sense amplifier senses voltage across the sense resistor in the power path via the VCC pin and the SENSE pin.A 12-bit ADC can measure the current seen in the sense resistor and in the supply voltage on the VCC pin. An industry-standard I2C interface allows a controller to read current and voltage data from the ADC. Measurements can be initiated by an I2C command. Alternatively, the ADC can run continuously, and the user can read the latest conversion data whenever it is required. Up to four unique I2C addresses can be created, depending on the way the ADR pin is connected.A SETV pin is also included. A voltage applied to this pin is internally compared to the output voltage on the current sense amplifier. The output of the SETV comparator asserts when the current sense amplifier output exceeds the SETV voltage. This event is detected at the ALERT block. The ALERT block then charges up the external TIMER capacitor with a fixed current. When this timing cycle is complete, the ALERT output asserts.The ALERT output can be used as a flag to warn a micro-controller or field programmable gate array (FPGA) of an overcurrent condition. ALERT outputs of multiple ADM1192 devices can be tied together and used as a combined alert.A basic P-channel FET hot swap circuit can be implemented with the ALERT output. The ADM709 contains a power supply monitor which generates a system reset during power-up, power-down and brownout conditions. When VCC falls below the reset threshold, RESET goes low and holds the µP in reset. On power-up the RESET output is held low for 140 ms after VCC rises above the threshold. The RESET output remains operational with VCC as low as 1 V.Three supply-voltage threshold levels are available suitable for +5 V, +3.3 V and for +3 V supply monitoring. The amplifier operates between 24 and 43.5 GHz, delivering 23 dB of small signal gain, 2.2 dB noise figure, and output IP3 of +22 dBm, while requiring only 70 mA from a +2.5 V supply.
