LT8642-1 | 18V, 10A Synchronous Step-Down Silent Switcher
Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration circuit 3162A is a 18V, 10A synchronous step-down Silent Switcher® with spread spectrum frequency modulation featuring the LT8642-1. The demo board is designed for 1.2V output from a 2.8V to 18V input. The LT8642-1 is a compact, low emission, high efficiency, and high speed synchronous monolithic stepdown switching regulator. Special Silent Switcher architecture minimizes EMI emissions. Selectable spread spectrum mode can further improve EMI performance. Fast minimum on-time of 20ns enables high VIN to low VOUT conversion at high frequency.
The LT8642-1 switching frequency can be programmed either via a resistor or external clock over a 200kHz to 3MHz range. The default frequency of demo circuit 3162A is 2MHz. The LT8642-1 SYNC/MODE pin on the demo board is grounded (JP1 at BURST position) by default for low ripple Burst Mode® operation. Spread spectrum mode and forced continuous mode can be selected respectively by moving JP1 shunt. To synchronize to an external clock, move JP1 to FCM/SYNC and apply the external clock to the SYNC terminal.
The LT8642-1 data sheet gives a complete description of the part, operation, and application information. The data sheet must be read in conjunction with this demo manual for demo circuit 3162A. The LT8642-1 is assembled in a 3mm × 4mm LQFN package with exposed pads for low thermal resistance. The layout recommendations for low EMI operation and maximum thermal performance are available in the data sheet section Low EMI PCB Layout and Thermal Considerations.

The LTC1923 is a pulse width modulator intended for thermoelectric cooler (TEC) or heater applications requiring either unidirectional or bidirectional drive circuits. All of the necessary control circuitry and two sets of complementary output drivers are integrated into the LTC1923 to drive a full bridge, providing an efficient means of bidirectional current flow to the TEC. An accurate temperature control loop to stabilize the temperature of a laser diode system is easily achieved with the addition of just a few external components. Typical temperature setpoint accuracy of 0.1?C is achievable with the LTC1923. Adding an instrumentation amplifier front end allows setpoint stability of 0.01?C.The part features independent adjustable heating and cooling pulse-by-pulse current limit, current soft-start for controlled start-up, output slew rate control to reduce system noise, differential current sense and voltage amplifiers and a host of auxiliary circuits to protect the laser and provide redundant system monitoring.Applications Laser-Based Fiber Optic Links Medical Instruments CPU Temperature Regulators

The LT1970A is a ?500mA power op amp with precise externally controlled current limiting. Separate control voltages program the sourcing and sinking current limit sense thresholds with 1% accuracy. Output current may be boosted by adding external power transistors. The circuit operates with single or split power supplies from 5V to 36V total supply voltage. In normal operation, the input stage supplies and the output stage supplies are connected (VCC to V+ and VEE to V?). To reduce power dissipation it is possible to power the output stage (V+, V?) from independent, lower voltage rails. The amplifier is unity-gain stable with a 3.6MHz gain-bandwidth product and slews at 1.6V/?s. The LT1970A can drive capacitive and inductive loads directly.Open-collector status flags signal current limit circuit activation, as well as thermal shutdown of the amplifier. An enable logic input puts the amplifier into a low power, high impedance output state when pulled low. Thermal shutdown and a ?800mA fixed current limit protect the chip under fault conditions. The LT1970A is packaged in a 20-lead TSSOP package with a thermally conductive copper bottom plate to facilitate heat sinking.Applications Automatic Test Equipment Laboratory Power Supplies Motor Drivers Thermoelectric Cooler Driver

The LT5506 is a 40MHz to 500MHz monolithic integrated quadrature demodulator with variable gain amplifier (VGA), designed for low voltage operation. It supports standards that use a linear modulation format. The chip consists of a VGA, quadrature down-converting mixers and lowpass noise filters. The LO port consists of a divide-by-two stage and LO buffers. The IC provides all building blocks for IF down-conversion to I and Q baseband signals with a single supply voltage of 1.8V to 5.25V. The VGA gain has a linear-in- dB relationship to the control input voltage. Hard-clipping amplifiers at the mixer outputs reduce the recovery time from a signal overload condition. The lowpass filters reduce the out-of-band noise and spurious frequency components. The cut-off frequency of the noise filters is approximately 8.8MHz. The external 2xLO frequency is required to be twice the IF input frequency for the mixers. The standby mode provides reduced supply current and fast transient response into the normal operating mode when the I/Q outputs are AC-coupled to a baseband chip.Applications IEEE802.11 High Speed Wireless LAN Wireless Local Loop

The AD7705 / AD7706?are complete analog front ends for low frequency measurement applications. These 2-/3-channel devices can accept low level input signals directly from a transducer and produce serial digital output. The devices employ a ?-? conversion technique to realize up to 16 bits of no missing codes performance. The selected input signal is applied to a proprietary, programmable-gain front end based around an analog modulator. The modulator output is processed by an on-chip digital filter. The first notch of this digital filter can be programmed via an on-chip control register, allowing adjustment of the filter cutoff and output update rate. The AD7705 / AD7706 devices operate from a single 2.7 V to 3.3 V or 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply. The AD7705 features two fully differential analog input channels; the AD7706 features three pseudo differential input channels. Both devices feature a differential reference input. Input signal ranges of 0 mV to 20 mV through 0 V to 2.5 V can be incorporated on both devices when operating with a VDD of 5 V and a reference of 2.5 V. They can also handle bipolar input signal ranges of ?20 mV through ?2.5 V, which are referenced to the AIN(?) inputs on the AD7705 and to the COMMON input on the AD7706.The AD7705 / AD7706 devices, with a 3 V supply and a 1.225 V reference, can handle unipolar input signal ranges of 0 mV to 10 mV through 0 V to 1.225 V. The devices can accept bipolar input ranges of ?10 mV through ?1.225 V. Therefore, the AD7705 / AD7706 devices perform all signal conditioning and conversion for a 2-channel or 3-channel system. The AD7705 / AD7706 are ideal for use in smart, microcontroller, or DSP-based systems. The devices feature a serial interface that can be configured for 3-wire operation. Gain settings, signal polarity, and update rate selection can be configured in software using the input serial port. The parts contains self-calibration and system calibration options to eliminate gain and offset errors on the part itself or in the system. CMOS construction ensures very low power dissipation, and the power-down mode reduces the standby power consumption to 20 ?W typ. These parts are available in a 16-lead, wide body (0.3 inch), plastic dual in-line package (DIP); a 16-lead, wide body (0.3 inch), standard small outline (SOIC) package; and a low profile, 16-lead, thin shrink small outline package (TSSOP).
