The Analog Devices, Inc., amplifier mezzanine card (AMC) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) driver evaluates the performance of amplifiers in 8-lead, single and dual SOIC, 6-lead single SOT23, 8-lead dual MSOP, and 16-lead LFCSP packages. This add on board can be inserted on ADC evaluation boards using its 7-pin header. Figure 1 shows the AMC mounted on an Analog Devices, Inc., ADC evaluation board. The AMC can support any of Analog Devices operational amplifiers and ADC drivers in different packages. The user can configure the ADC driver as a Sallen-Key low-pass, high-pass, or band-pass filter, as a multiple feedback low-pass, high-pass, or band-pass filter, or as an inverting and noninverting operational amplifier. The user can also configure the AMC to drive a single-ended, fully differential, or a single-ended signal to a differential ADC. Optimized power and ground planes ensure low noise and high speed operation. Component placement and power supply bypassing are optimized for maximum circuit flexibility and performance. The AMC evaluation board accepts 0402 or 0603 surface mount technology (SMT) components, 1206 bypass capacitors, and 2.54 mm headers. All components are placed on the primary side. No components are placed on the secondary side.

The AD829 is a low noise (1.7 nV/√Hz), high speed op amp with custom compensation that provides the user with gains of 1 to 20 while maintaining a bandwidth >50 MHz. Its 0.04° differential phase and 0.02% differential gain performance at 3.58 MHz and 4.43 MHz, driving reverse-terminated 50 Ω or 75 Ω cables, makes it ideally suited for professional video applications. The AD829 achieves its 230 V/μs uncompensated slew rate and 750 MHz gain bandwidth while requiring only 5 mA of current from power supplies.The external compensation pin of the AD829 gives it exceptional versatility. For example, compensation can be selected to optimize the bandwidth for a given load and power supply voltage. As a gain-of-2 line driver, the −3 dB bandwidth can be increased to 95 MHz at the expense of 1 dB of peaking. Its output can also be clamped at its external compensation pin.The AD829 exhibits excellent dc performance. It offers a minimum open-loop gain of 30 V/mV into loads as low as 500 Ω, a low input voltage noise of 1.7 nV/√Hz, and a low input offset voltage of 1 mV maximum. Common-mode rejection and power supply rejection ratios are both 120 dB.This op amp is also useful in multichannel, high speed data conversion where its fast (90 ns to 0.1%) settling time is important. In such applications, the AD829 serves as an input buffer for 8-bit to 10-bit ADCs and as an output I/V converter for high speed DACs.Operating as a traditional voltage feedback amplifier, the AD829 provides many of the advantages that a transimpedance amplifier offer. A bandwidth >50 MHz can be maintained for a range of gains through the replacement of the external compensation capacitor. The AD829 and the transimpedance amplifier are both unity-gain stable and provide similar voltage noise performance (1.7 nV/√Hz); however, the current noise of the AD829 (1.5 pA/√Hz) is less than 10% of the noise of transimpedance amplifiers. The inputs of the AD829 are symmetrical.

The AD8231 is a low drift, rail-to-rail, instrumentation amplifier with software-programmable gains of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, or 128. The gains are programmed via digital logic or pin strapping.The AD8231 is ideal for applications that require precision performance over a wide temperature range, such as industrial temperature sensing and data logging. Because the gain setting resistors are internal, maximum gain drift is only 10 ppm/°C for gains of 1 to 32. Because of the auto-zero input stage, maximum input offset is 15 μV and maximum input offset drift is just 50 nV/°C. CMRR is 80 dB for G = 1, increasing to 110 dB at higher gains.The AD8231 also includes an uncommitted op amp that can be used for additional gain, differential signal driving, or filtering. Like the in-amp, the op amp has an auto-zero architecture, rail-to-rail input, and rail-to-rail output.The AD8231 includes a shutdown feature that reduces current to a maximum of 1 μA. The SSM2135 dual audio operational amplifier permits excel-lent performance in portable or low power audio systems, with an operating supply range of 4 V to 36 V or ±2 V to ±18 V. The unity-gain stable device has very low voltage noise of 5.2 nV/√Hz, and total harmonic distortion plus noise below 0.01% over normal signal levels and loads. Such characteristics are enhanced by wide output swing and load drive capability. A unique output stage1 permits output swing approaching the rail under moderate load conditions. Under severe loading, the SSM2135 still maintains a wide output swing with ultralow distortion. This product features extremely high CMRR, allowing it to extract low level signals in the presence of high frequency common-mode noise over a wide temperature range. The 10 MHz bandwidth, 35 V/µs slew rate, and 0.6 µs settling time to 0.001% (G = 10) allow the AD8421 to amplify high speed signals and excel in applications that require high channel count, multiplexed systems. Even at higher gains, the current feedback architecture maintains high performance; for example, at G = 100, the bandwidth is 2 MHz and the settling time is 0.8 µs.
