AD7740KRMZ-REEL7
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD7740 is a low-cost, ultrasmall synchronous Voltage-to-FrequencyConverter (VFC). It works from a single 3.0 V to3.6 V or 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply consuming 0.9 mA. The AD7740is available in an 8-lead SOT-23 and also in an 8-lead MSOPpackage. Small package, low cost and ease of use were majordesign goals for this product. The part contains an on-chip 2.5 Vbandgap reference but the user may overdrive this using anexternal reference. This external reference range includes VDD.The full-scale output frequency is synchronous with the clocksignal on the CLKIN pin. This clock can be generated with theaddition of an external crystal (or resonator) or supplied from aCMOS-compatible clock source. The part has a maximuminput frequency of 1 MHz.For an analog input signal that goes from 0 V to VREF, the outputfrequency goes from 10% to 90% of fCLKIN. In buffered mode, the part provides a very high input impedance and accepts arange of 0.1 V to VDD – 0.2 V on the VIN pin. There is alsoan unbuffered mode of operation that allows VIN to go from–0.15 V to VDD + 0.15 V. The modes are interchangeable usingthe BUF pin.The AD7740 (Y Grade) is guaranteed over the automotivetemperature range of –40°C to +105°C. The AD7740 (K Grade)is guaranteed from 0°C to 85°C.Product Highlights The AD7740 is a single channel, single-ended VFC. It is available in 8-lead SOT-23 and 8-lead MSOP packages, and is intended for low-cost applications. The AD7740 offers considerable space saving over alternative solutions. The AD7740 operates from a single 3.0 V to 3.6 V or 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply and consumes typically 0.9 mA when the input is unbuffered. It also contains an automatic power-down function. The AD7740 does not require external resistors and capacitors to set the output frequency. The maximum output frequency is set by a crystal or a clock. No trimming or calibration is required. The analog input can be taken to 150 mV below GND for true bipolar operation. The specified voltage reference range on REFIN is from 2.5 V to the supply voltage, VDD.Applications Isolation of high common-mode voltages Low-cost analog-to-digital conversion Battery monitoring Automotive sensing

The AD7890 is an 8-channel 12-bit data acquisition system. The part contains an input multiplexer, an on-chip track/hold amplifier, a high speed 12-bit ADC, a 2.5 V reference, and a high speed, serialinterface. The part operates from a single 5 V supply and accepts an analog input range of ±10 V (AD7890-10), 0 V to 4.096 V (AD7890-4), and 0 V to 2.5 V (AD7890-2).The multiplexer on the part is independently accessible. This allows the user to insert an antialiasing filter or signal conditioning, if required, between the multiplexer and the ADC. This means that one antialiasing filter can be used for all eight channels. Connection of an external capacitor allows the user to adjust the time given to the multiplexer settling to include any external delays in the filter or signal conditioning circuitry.Output data from the AD7890 is provided via a high speed bidirectional serial interface port. The part contains an on-chip control register, allowing control of channel selection, conversion start, and power-down via the serial port. Versatile, high speed logic ensures easy interfacing to serial ports on microcontrollers and digital signal processors. In addition to the traditional dc accuracy specifications such as linearity, full-scale, and offset errors, the AD7890 is also specified for dynamic performance parameters including harmonic distortion and signal-to-noise ratio.Power dissipation in normal mode is low at 30 mW typical and the part can be placed in a standby (power-down) mode if it is not required to perform conversions. The AD7890 is fabricated in Analog Devices, Inc.'s Linear Compatible CMOS (LC2MOS) process, a mixed technology process that combines precision bipolar circuits with low power CMOS logic. The part is available in a 24-lead, 0.3' wide, plastic or ceramic dual-in-line package or in a 24-lead small outline package (SOIC_W).PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS Complete 12-Bit Data Acquisition System-on-a-Chip. The AD7890 is a complete monolithic ADC combining an 8-channel multiplexer, 12-bit ADC, 2.5 V reference, and a track/hold amplifier on a single chip. Separate Access to Multiplexer and ADC. The AD7890 provides access to the output of the multiplexer allowing one antialiasing filter for 8 channels—a considerable savings over the 8 antialiasing filters required if the multiplexer is internally connected to the ADC. High Speed Serial Interface. The part provides a high speed serial interface for easy connection to serial ports of microcontrollers and DSP processors.

The AD7910 / AD7920 are 10-bit and 12-bit, high speed, low power, successive-approximation ADCs respectively. The parts operate from a single 2.35 V to 5.25 V power supply and feature throughput rates up to 250 kSPS. The parts contain a low-noise, wide bandwidth track/hold amplifier, which can handle input frequencies in excess of 6 MHz.The conversion process and data acquisition are controlled using CS and the serial clock, allowing the devices to interface with microprocessors or DSPs. The input signal is sampled on the falling edge of CS and the conversion is also initiated at this point. There are no pipelined delays associated with the part. The AD7910 / AD7920 use advanced design techniques to achieve very low power dissipation at high throughput rates. The reference for the part is taken internally from VDD. This allows the widest dynamic input range to the ADC. Thus the analog input range for the part is 0 to VDD. The conversion rate is determined by the SCLK.PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS 10-/12-bit ADCs in SC70 and MSOP packages. Low power consumption. Flexible power/serial clock speed management. The conversion rate is determined by the serial clock, allowing the conversion time to be reduced through the serial clock speed increase. This allows the average power consumption to be reduced when power-down mode is used while not converting. The part also features a power-down mode to maximize power efficiency at lower throughput rates. Current consumption is 1 μA maximum and 50 nA typically when in power-down mode. Reference derived from the power supply. No pipeline delay. The parts feature a standard successive approximation ADC with accurate control of the sampling instant via a CS input and once-off conversion control.APPLICATIONS Battery-powered systems Personal digital assistants Medical instruments Mobile communications Instrumentation and control systems Data acquisition systems High speed modems Optical sensors
