Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration Circuit 2836A is a dual-output PolyPhase® DC/DC synchronous step-down regulator with 4V to 20V input range featuring LT7182S. Each output can supply 6A continuous/9A maximum transient load current. LT7182S is a dual 6A monolithic step-down regulator utilizing second-generation Silent Switcher® technology to minimize EMI and reduce PCB layout sensitivity. It also integrates digital power system management function allowing for programmability and telemetry with a PMBus/I2C compliant serial interface. Please see LT7182S data sheet for more detailed information. The demonstration circuit 2836A runs at 1MHz to minimize solution size. The peak efficiency at 12V input is 83.2% for 1.2V rail and 91.1% for 3.3V rail. The IC temperature rise is 70°C when both channels run at full load, 6A each, at 1MHz. The demo board has EMI filters installed for both channels. The conducted and radiated EMI performances of the board (with EMI filters) are shown in Figure 2 of the demo manual. The red lines in Figure 2 are CISPR25 CLASS 5 limit. DC2836A powers up to default settings and produces power based on configuration resistors without the need for any serial bus communication. This allows easy evaluation of the DC/DC converter. Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration circuit 2838A features the LT8365 in a boost configuration. It operates with a switching frequency of 400kHz and is designed to convert a 9V to 30V source to 250V, with 10mA output current. Output voltage sensing connections remain the same. The LT8365 can be used for different topologies with input voltages up to 60V. However, component selection in this demo circuit restricts the input voltage to 30V. The demo board contains a selectable jumper, JP1, to aid in the selection of the desired sync pin mode of operation. The default setting is Burst Mode® operation. This layout is optimized for good EMI performance and small solution size. Input and output filters are necessary for CISPR 25 Class 5 emissions. Radiated emissions plots are included in this manual. The data sheet gives a complete description of the device, operation and application information. The data sheet must be read in conjunction with this demo manual.

LTM4660 | High Density Hybrid Step-Down Synchronous Converter

Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration circuit 2879A is a high efficiency, high power density hybrid converter. It can deliver 12V/25A with an input voltage from 36V to 60V (up to 65V during transients). This demo board features the LTM4660, which uses an architecture that merges soft-switching switched capacitor topology with a traditional step-down converter to provide superior efficiency compared to the traditional switching architectures. It offers a high efficiency/high density and cost effective solution for nonisolated intermediate bus applications in power distribution, datacom and telecom. Due to its current mode control architecture, multiple LTM4660s can be operated in a parallel, multiphase configuration with excellent current sharing and low output voltage ripple to enable much higher power applications. Other benefits include low EMI emissions due to a soft-switched front end and reduced MOSFET stress. The LTM4660 design eliminates the inrush current typically associated with switched capacitor circuits by pre-balancing the capacitors on start-up. The LTM4660 also monitors system voltage, current and temperature for faults. It stops switching and pulls the FAULT pin low when a fault condition occurs. An onboard timer can be set for appropriate restart/retry times. Additional features include ±1.5% output voltage accuracy over temperature, a clock output for multiphase operation, a power good output signal, short-circuit protection, monotonic output voltage start-up, optional external reference, undervoltage lockout and internal charge balance circuitry. The LTM4660 data sheet must be used in conjunction with this demo board manual.

The LTC3413 is a high efficiency monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter utilizing a constant frequency, current mode architecture. It operates from an input voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V and provides a regulated output voltage equal to (0.5)VREF while sourcing or sinking up to 3A of output current. An internal voltage divider reduces component count and eliminates the need for external resistors by dividing the reference voltage in half. The internal synchronous power switch with 85m? on-resistance increases efficiency and eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode. Switching frequencies up to 2MHz are set by an external resistor.Forced-continuous operation in the LTC3413 reduces noise and RF interference. Fault protection is provided by an overcurrent comparator that limits output current during both sourcing and sinking operations. Adjustable compensation allows the transient response to be optimized over a wide range of loads and output capacitors.Applications Bus Termination: DDR and QDR? Memory, SSTL, HSTL, ... The LTC4006 is a complete constant-current/constant voltage charger controller for 2-, 3- or 4-cell lithium batteries in a small package using few external components. The PWM controller is a synchronous, quasi-constant frequency, constant off-time architecture that will not generate audible noise even when using ceramic capacitors. The LTC4006 is available in 8.4V, 12.6V and 16.8V versions with ?0.8% voltage accuracy. Charging current is programmable with a single sense resistor to ?4% typical accuracy. Charging current can be monitored as a representative voltage at the IMON pin. A timer, programmed by an external resistor, sets the total charge time or is reset to 25% of total charge time after C/10 charging current is reached. Charging automatically resumes when the cell voltage falls below 3.9V/cell.Fully discharged cells are automatically trickle charged at 10% of the programmed current until the cell voltage exceeds 2.5V/cell. Charging terminates if the low-battery condition persists for more than 25% of the total charge time. The LTC4006 includes a thermistor sensor input that suspends charging if an unsafe temperature condition is detected and automatically resumes charging when the battery temperature returns to within safe limits.Applications Notebook Computers Portable Instruments Battery-Backup Systems Standalone Li-Ion Chargers

The LTC3251/LTC3251-1.2/LTC3251-1.5 are 2-phase charge pump step-down DC/DC converters that produce a regulated output from a 2.7V to 5.5V input. The parts use switched capacitor fractional conversion to achieve twice the typical efficiency of a linear regulator. No inductors are required. VOUT is resistor programmable from 0.9V to 1.6V or fixed at 1.2V or 1.5V, with up to 500mA of load current available.A unique 2-phase spread spectrum architecture provides a very low noise regulated output as well as low noise at the input. The parts have four operating modes: Continuous Spread Spectrum, Spread Spectrum with Burst Mode operation, Super Burst? mode operation and shutdown.Low operating current (35?A in Burst Mode operation, 10?A in Super Burst mode operation) and low external parts count make the LTC3251/LTC3251-1.2/LTC3251-1.5 ideally suited for space-constrained battery-powered applications. The parts are short-circuit and over-temperature protected, and are available in a thermally enhanced 10-pin MSOP package.Applications Handheld Devices Cellular Phones Portable Electronic Equipment DSP Power Supplies

The LTC3729 is a multiple phase, synchronous step-down current mode switching regulator controller that drives N-channel external power MOSFET stages in a phase-lockable fixed frequency architecture. The PolyPhase controller drives its two output stages out of phase at frequencies up to 550kHz to minimize the RMS ripple currents in both input and output capacitors. The output clock signal allows expansion for up to 12 evenly phased controllers for systems requiring 15A to 200A of output current. The multiple phase technique effectively multiplies the fundamental frequency by the number of channels used, improving transient response while operating each channel at an optimum frequency for efficiency. Thermal design is also simplified. An internal differential amplifier provides true remote sensing of the regulated supply?s positive and negative output terminals as required for high current applications.A RUN/SS pin provides both soft-start and optional timed, short-circuit shutdown. Current foldback limits MOSFET dissipation during short-circuit conditions when the overcurrent latchoff is disabled. OPTI-LOOP compensation allows the transient response to be optimized over a wide range of output capacitance and ESR values.
