The AD9371 is a highly integrated, wideband RF transceiveroffering dual channel transmitters and receivers, integrated synthesizers, and digital signal processing functions. The ICdelivers a versatile combination of high performance and low power consumption required by 3G/4G micro and macro BTSequipment in both FDD and TDD applications. The AD9371operates from 300 MHz to 6000 MHz, covering most of the licensed and unlicensed cellular bands. The IC supports receiver bandwidths up to 100 MHz. It also supports observation receiver and transmit synthesis bandwidths up to 250 MHz to accommodate digital correction algorithms.The transceiver consists of wideband direct conversion signalpaths with state-of-the-art noise figure and linearity. Each complete receiver and transmitter subsystem includes dc offset correction, quadrature error correction (QEC), and programmable digitalfilters, eliminating the need for these functions in the digitalbaseband. Several auxiliary functions such as an auxiliary analog-to-digital converter (ADC), auxiliary digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and general-purpose input/outputs (GPIOs) are integratedto provide additional monitoring and control capability.An observation receiver channel with two inputs is included to monitor each transmitter output and implement interference mitigation and calibration applications. This channel also connects to three sniffer receiver inputs that can monitor radio activity in different bands.The high speed JESD204B interface supports lane rates up to 6144 Mbps. Four lanes are dedicated to the transmitters and four lanes are dedicated to the receiver and observation receiver channels.The fully integrated phase-locked loops (PLLs) provide high performance, low power fractional-N frequency synthesis forthe transmitter, the receiver, the observation receiver, and theclock sections. Careful design and layout techniques provide theisolation demanded in high performance base station applications.All voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and loop filter components are integrated to minimize the external component count. A 1.3 V supply is required to power the core of the AD9371, anda standard 4-wire serial port controls it. Other voltage supplies provide proper digital interface levels and optimize transmitterand auxiliary converter performance. The HMC992LP5E is an IF analog controlled variable gain amplifier composed of two identical voltage variable attenuators in combination with an InGaP HBT gain block MMIC amplifier which operates from 0.1 to 0.8 GHz, and can be controlled to provide anywhere from -10 dB attenuation, to 40 dB of gain. The HMC992LP5E delivers noise figure of 6 dB in its maximum gain state, with output IP3 of up to +40 dBm. The ADRF6702 provides a quadrature modulator and synthesizer solution within a small 6 mm × 6 mm footprint while requiring minimal external components.The ADRF6702 is designed for RF outputs from 1200 MHz to 2400 MHz. The low phase noise VCO and high performance quadrature modulator make the ADRF6702 suitable for next generation communication systems requiring high signal dynamic range and linearity. The integration of the IQ modulator, PLL, and VCO provides for significant board savings and reduces the BOM and design complexity.The integrated fractional-N PLL/synthesizer generates a 2× fLO input to the IQ modulator. The phase detector together with an external loop filter is used to control the VCO output. The VCO output is applied to a quadrature divider. To reduce spurious components, a sigma-delta (Σ-Δ) modulator controls the programmable PLL divider.The IQ modulator has wideband differential I and Q inputs, which support baseband as well as complex IF architectures. The single-ended modulator output is designed to drive a 50 Ω load impedance and can be disabled.The ADRF6702 is fabricated using an advanced silicon-germanium BiCMOS process. It is available in a 40-lead, exposed-paddle, Pb-free, 6 mm × 6 mm LFCSP package. Performance is specified from −40°C to +85°C. The ADF4159 is a 13 GHz, fractional-N frequency synthesizer with modulation and both fast and slow waveform generation capability. The part uses a 25-bit fixed modulus, allowing subhertz frequency resolution.The ADF4159 consists of a low noise digital phase frequency detector (PFD), a precision charge pump, and a programmable reference divider. The Σ-Δ-based fractional interpolator allows programmable fractional-N division. The INT and FRAC registers define an overall N divider as N = INT + (FRAC/225).The ADF4159 can be used to implement frequency shift keying (FSK) and phase shift keying (PSK) modulation. Frequency sweep modes are also available to generate various waveforms in the frequency domain, for example, sawtooth and triangular waveforms. Sweeps can be set to run automatically, or each step manually triggered by an external pulse. The ADF4159 features cycle slip reduction circuitry, which enables faster lock times without the need for modifications to the loop filter.Control of all on-chip registers is via a simple 3-wire interface. The ADF4159 operates with an analog power supply in the range of 2.7 V to 3.45 V and a digital power supply in the range of 1.62 V to 1.98 V.
