AD8220WARMZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The AD8220 is the first single-supply, JFET input instrumentation amplifier available in an MSOP package. Designed to meet the needs of high performance, portable instrumentation, the AD8220 has a minimum common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of 86 dB at dc and a minimum CMRR of 80 dB at 5 kHz for G = 1. Maximum input bias current is 10 pA and typically remains below 300 pA over the entire industrial temperature range. Despite the JFET inputs, the AD8220 typically has a noise corner of only 10 Hz.With the proliferation of mixed-signal processing, the number of power supplies required in each system has grown. The AD8220 is designed to alleviate this problem. The AD8220 can operate on a ±18 V dual supply, as well as on a single +5 V supply. Its rail-to-rail output stage maximizes dynamic range on the low voltage supplies common in portable applications. Its ability to run on a single 5 V supply eliminates the need to use higher voltage, dual supplies. The AD8220 draws a maximum of 750 μA of quiescent current, making it ideal for battery powered devices.Gain is set from 1 to 1000 with a single resistor. Increasing the gain increases the common-mode rejection. Measurements that need higher CMRR when reading small signals benefit when the AD8220 is set for large gains.A reference pin allows the user to offset the output voltage. This feature is useful when interfacing with analog-to-digital converters. The AD8220 is available in an MSOP that takes roughly half the board area of an SOIC. Performance for the A and B grade is specified over the industrial temperature range of −40°C to +85°C, and the W grade is specified over the automotive temperature range of −40°C to +125°C.Applications Medical instrumentation Precision data acquisition Transducer interfaces

The AD8260 includes a high current driver, usable as atransmitter, and a low noise digitally programmable variablegain amplifier (DGA), useable as a receiver. The receiver section consists of a single-ended input preamplifier, and linear-in-dB, differential-output DGA. The receiver hasa small signal –3 dB bandwidth of 230 MHz; the driver smallsignal bandwidth is 195 MHz. The driver delivers ±300 mA,well suited for driving low impedance loads, even whenconnected to a 3.3 V supply. The AD8260 DGA is ideal for trim applications and has a gainspan of 30 dB, in 3 dB steps. Excellent bandwidth uniformity ismaintained across the entire frequency range. The low output-referrednoise of the DGA is advantageous in driving highspeed ADCs. The differential output facilitates the interface tomodern low voltage high speed ADCs.Single-supply and dual-supply operation makes the part versatileand enables gain control of negative-going pulses, such as thosegenerated by photodiodes or photo-multiplier tubes, as well asprocessing band-pass signals on a single supply. For maximumdynamic range, it is essential that the part be ac-coupled whenoperating on a single supply. The AD8260 preamplifier (PrA) is configured with externalresistors for gains greater than 6 dB and can be inverting ornoninverting. The DGA is characterized with a noninvertingpreamplifier gain of 2×. The attenuator has a range of 30 dB andthe output amplifier has a gain of 8× (18.06 dB). The lowestnoninverting gain range is −6 dB to +24 dB and shifts up withincreased preamplifier gain. The gain is controlled via a parallelport (Pin GNS0 to Pin GNS3) with 10 gain steps of 3 dB percode. The preamplifier and DGA are disabled for any code thatis not assigned a gain step. The AD8260 can operate with single or dual supplies from 3.3 Vto ±5 V. An internal buffer normally provides a split supplyreference for single-supply operation; an external reference canalso be used when the VMID buffer is shut down. The operating temperature range is −40°C to +105°C. TheAD8260 is available in a 5 mm × 5 mm, 32-lead LFCSP.Applications Digital AGC systems Tx/Rx signal processing Power line transceivers

The AD8339 is a quad I/Q demodulator configured to be driven by a low noise preamplifier with differential outputs. It is optimized for the LNA in the AD8332 / AD8334 / AD8335 family of VGAs. The part consists of four identical I/Q demodulators with a 4× local oscillator (LO) input that divides this signal and generates the necessary 0° and 90° phases of the internal LO that drive the mixers. The four I/Q demodulators can be used independently of each other (assuming that a common LO is acceptable) because each has a separate RF input.Continuous wave (CW) analog beamforming (ABF) and I/Q demodulation are combined in a single 40-lead ultracompact chip scale device, making the AD8339 particularly applicable in high density ultrasound scanners. In an ABF system, time domain coherency is achieved following the appropriate phase alignment and summation of multiple receiver channels. A reset pin synchronizes multiple ICs to start each LO divider in the same quadrant. Sixteen programmable 22.5° phase increments are available for each channel. For example, if Channel 1 is used as a reference and Channel 2 has an I/Q phase lead of 45°, then the user can phase align Channel 2 with Channel 1 by choosing the correct code. The mixer outputs are in current form for convenient summation. The independent I and Q mixer output currents are summed and converted to a voltage by a low noise, high dynamic range, current-to-voltage (I-V) transimpedance amplifier, such as the AD8021 or the AD829. Following the current summation, the combined signal is applied to a high resolution analog-to-digital converter (ADC), such as the AD7665 (16-bit, 570 kSPS).An SPI-compatible serial interface port is provided to easily program the phase of each channel; the interface allows daisy chaining by shifting the data through each chip from SDI to SDO. The SPI also allows for power-down of each individual channel and the complete chip. During power-down, the serial interface remains active so that the device can be programmed again. The dynamic range is typically 160 dB/Hz at the I and Q outputs. The AD8339 is available in a 6 mm × 6 mm, 40-lead LFCSP and is specified over the industrial temperature range of −40°C to +85°C.APPLICATIONS Medical imaging (CW ultrasound beamforming) Phased array systems Radar Adaptive antennas Communication receivers
