The AD8260 includes a high current driver, usable as atransmitter, and a low noise digitally programmable variablegain amplifier (DGA), useable as a receiver.The receiver section consists of a single-ended input preamplifier,and linear-in-dB, differential-output DGA. The receiver hasa small signal ?3 dB bandwidth of 230 MHz; the driver smallsignal bandwidth is 195 MHz. The driver delivers ?300 mA,well suited for driving low impedance loads, even whenconnected to a 3.3 V supply.The AD8260 DGA is ideal for trim applications and has a gainspan of 30 dB, in 3 dB steps. Excellent bandwidth uniformity ismaintained across the entire frequency range. The low output-referrednoise of the DGA is advantageous in driving highspeed ADCs. The differential output facilitates the interface tomodern low voltage high speed ADCs.Single-supply and dual-supply operation makes the part versatileand enables gain control of negative-going pulses, such as thosegenerated by photodiodes or photo-multiplier tubes, as well asprocessing band-pass signals on a single supply. For maximumdynamic range, it is essential that the part be ac-coupled whenoperating on a single supply.The AD8260 preamplifier (PrA) is configured with externalresistors for gains greater than 6 dB and can be inverting ornoninverting. The DGA is characterized with a noninvertingpreamplifier gain of 2?. The attenuator has a range of 30 dB andthe output amplifier has a gain of 8? (18.06 dB). The lowestnoninverting gain range is ?6 dB to +24 dB and shifts up withincreased preamplifier gain. The gain is controlled via a parallelport (Pin GNS0 to Pin GNS3) with 10 gain steps of 3 dB percode. The preamplifier and DGA are disabled for any code thatis not assigned a gain step.The AD8260 can operate with single or dual supplies from 3.3 Vto ?5 V. An internal buffer normally provides a split supplyreference for single-supply operation; an external reference canalso be used when the VMID buffer is shut down.The operating temperature range is ?40?C to +105?C. The AD8317 is a demodulating logarithmic amplifier, capable of accurately converting an RF input signal to a corresponding decibel-scaled output. It employs the progressive compression technique over a cascaded amplifier chain, each stage of which is equipped with a detector cell. The device can be used in either measurement or controller modes. The AD8317 maintains accurate log conformance for signals of 1 MHz to 8 GHz and provides useful operation to 10 GHz. The input dynamic range is typically 55 dB (referenced to 50 ?) with less than ?3 dB error. The AD8317 has 6 ns/10 ns response time (fall time/rise time) that enables RF burst detection to a pulse rate of beyond 50 MHz. The device provides unprecedented logarithmic intercept stability vs. ambient temperature conditions. A supply of 3.0 V to 5.5 V is required to power the device. Current consumption is typically 22 mA, and it decreases to 200 ?A when the device is disabled.The AD8317 can be configured to provide a control voltage to a power amplifier or a measurement output from the VOUT pin. Because the output can be used for controller applications, special attention has been paid to minimize wideband noise. In this mode, the setpoint control voltage is applied to the VSET pin.The feedback loop through an RF amplifier is closed via VOUT, the output of which regulates the output of the amplifier to a magnitude corresponding to VSET. The AD8317 provides 0 V to (VPOS ? 0.1 V) output capability at the VOUT pin, suitable for controller applications. As a measurement device, VOUT is externally connected to VSET to produce an output voltage, VOUT, that is a decreasing linear-in-dB function of the RF input signal amplitude.The logarithmic slope is ?22 mV/dB, determined by the VSET interface. The intercept is 15 dBm (referenced to 50 ?, CW input) using the INHI input. The AD8330 is a wideband variable gain amplifier for applicationsrequiring a fully differential signal path, low noise, well-definedgain, and moderately low distortion, from dc to 150 MHz. Theinput pins can also be driven from a single-ended source. Thepeak differential input is ?2 V, allowing sine wave operation at1 V rms with generous headroom. The output pins can drivesingle-sided loads essentially rail-to-rail. The differential outputresistance is 150 ?. The output swing is a linear function of thevoltage applied to the VMAG pin that internally defaults to 0.5 V,providing a peak output of ?2 V. This can be raised to 10 V p-p,limited by the supply voltage.The basic gain function is linear-in-dB, controlled by the voltageapplied to Pin VDBS. The gain ranges from 0 dB to 50 dB forcontrol voltages between 0 V and 1.5 V?a slope of 30 mV/dB.The gain linearity is typically within ?0.1 dB. By changing thelogic level on Pin MODE, the gain decreases over the same range,with an opposite slope. A second gain control port is providedat the VMAG pin and allows the user to vary the numeric gainfrom a factor of 0.03 to 10. All the parameters of the AD8330have low sensitivities to temperature and supply voltages. UsingVMAG, the basic 0 dB to 50 dB range can be repositioned toany value from 20 dB higher (that is, 20 dB to 70 dB) to at least30 dB lower (that is, ?30 dB to +20 dB) to suit the application,thereby providing an unprecedented gain range of over 100 dB.A unique aspect of the AD8330 is that its bandwidth and pulseresponse are essentially constant for all gains, over both thebasic 50 dB linear-in-dB range, but also when using the linearin-magnitudefunction. The exceptional stability of the HFresponse over the gain range is of particular value in those VGAapplications where it is essential to maintain accurate gain lawconformanceat high frequencies.An external capacitor at Pin OFST sets the high-pass corner ofan offset reduction loop, whose frequency can be as low as 5 Hz.When this pin is grounded, the signal path becomes dc-coupled.When used to drive an ADC, an external common-mode controlvoltage at Pin CNTR can be driven to within 0.5 V of either groundor VS to accommodate a wide variety of requirements. The AD8331 is a single channel, ultralow noise, linear-in-dB, variable gain amplifier (VGA). Optimized for ultrasound systems, it is usable as a low noise variable gain element at frequencies up to 120 MHz.Included is an ultralow noise preamplifier (LNA), an X-AMP? VGA with 48 dB of gain range, and a selectable gain postamplifier with adjustable output limiting. The LNA gain is 19 dB with a single-ended input and differential outputs. Using a single resistor, the LNA input impedance can be adjusted to match a signal source without compromising noise performance.The 48 dB gain range of the VGA makes these devices suitable for a variety of applications. Excellent bandwidth uniformity is maintained across the entire range. The gain control interface provides precise linear-in-dB scaling of 50 dB/V for control voltages between 40 mV and 1 V. Factory trim ensures excellent part-to-part and channel-to-channel gain matching. Differential signal paths result in superb second- and third-order distortion performance and low crosstalk.The operating temperature range is -40?C to +85?C. The AD8335 is a quad variable gain amplifier (VGA) with low noise preamplifier intended for cost and power sensitive applications. Each channel features a gain range of 48 dB, fully differential signal paths, active input preamplifier matching, and user-selectable maximum gains of 46 dB and 38 dB. Individual gain controls are provided for each channel.The preamplifier (PrA) has a single-ended to differential gain of ?8 (18.06 dB) and accepts input signals 625 mV p-p. PrA noise is 1.2 nV/?Hz and the combined input referred voltage noise of the PrA and VGA is 1.3 nV/?Hz at maximum gain.Assuming a 20 MHz noise bandwidth (NBW), the Nyquist frequency for a 40 MHz ADC, the input SNR is 92 dB. The HLxx pin optimizes the output SNR for 10-bit and 12-bit ADCs with 1 V p-p or 2 V p-p full-scale (FS) inputs.Channel 1 and Channel 2 are enabled through the EN12 pin and Channel 3 and Channel 4 are enabled through the EN34 pin.
